Principal's Message

 Grandparents Day Greatness!

How fortunate we were today to have our very special nans, pops, grandmas, and other special persons attend our Grandparents’ Day Extravaganza.  A big thank you to all of our valued visitors who put in the effort to attend, some travelling considerably to take part. For another year our classrooms were packed!  Laughter, smiles, hugs and so many proud little faces, showing off their classroom and school.  What a fantastic extended school community!

Our grandparents enjoyed a morning tea, activities in classrooms and some terrific concert items in the GP room.  Great job to our students and their teachers for being magnificent hosts!

Parent chats welcomed in mornings

Following the feedback we received in our End of Term One Survey, and in consultation with teachers and school council we have decided ensure teachers are in classrooms and prepared for brief chats with parents between 8:50 – 8:55am and 3:30 and 3:35pm daily.  Whilst I recognise this is just a 5 minute window at each end of the day, it is an additional 50 mins per week that our teachers are committing to strengthening communication with parents.  If you would like to discuss something a little more meaty please remember to call/email and book an individual time.  Parents are welcome to enter the BER building from 8:50am.

Congratulations to Mrs Briggs

This week Mrs Briggs announced to her class that she is pregnant and will be taking family leave from the beginning of Term Four.  We wish Kiri and her family all the best as they now become a family of four.  A letter went out to Year 5/6 families on Compass this week with some information about some class structure changes in the Year 5/6 level.  Parents please make sure you access Compass to read about these changes or contact the school to have the letter emailed to you.

Have you met our fluffy chooks?

We are very excited to see the return of our resident chooks down in Chooktopia.  Our new friends are the fluffy variety with the matching fluffy helmet heads!  Very cute.  Make sure to head on down to the coop to say hello!

Our May School Council Meeting

On Monday evening our school councillors attended an online meeting to discuss:

  • Communication Policy
  • Year 5/6 class structures
  • Issues with School Crossing Supervision
  • Results of our End of Term One Survey
  • Financial reports and budgeting

Our next meeting will be on Monday 17th June and will be held at onsite at school.  We still have some vacancies on school council for 2024 if any parents or community members would like to self-nominate.

Puberty talks – Wednesday 22nd May

Prepare yourselves, next week sees the return of Sharon Witt to discuss all things puberty with our Year 5 and 6 students.  If you would like to know a bit more about Sharon and her presentation you can check out her website here:  https://www.sharonwitt.com.au/

There are also books available to purchase on the site, which you may find are valuable for discussing the content after the presentation, with your children at home. Please note that we will also be running a program teaching our Year 5/6 students about the dangers of vaping in Term Three.  I’ll let you know a little more about that closer to the date.

Photo trail

A big thank you to all the parent and family helpers who came along to assist with the photo trail last week.  I know our teachers and students felt very supported by your presence and the day was named a big success.  Another great event organised by Mr D, Sports Coordinator.

Premier’s Reading Challenge reminder

Have you signed up for the Premier's Reading Challenge yet?

The Premiers' Reading Challenge encourages all children to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online. Since the Challenge first began in 2005, more than 3 million students have read nearly 51 million books. You can read books from the Premiers' Reading Challenge Lists that are regularly updated by teachers and librarians, or you can choose your own! To make things a little easier, here are some books that you might like to find and try out.  Good luck and happy reading!

One of my absolute favs!
