From the Principal

Principal: Mathew Montebello

Dear Families,

As mentioned in previous newsletters this coming Monday 20th May is a student free curriculum day. School’s are allocated four student free curriculum days throughout the year.

The first which is mandated to be held at the start of the year allows for staff to prepare for the commencement of the year. The other three days can be used for professional development, with one required for reporting.

This Monday being the school’s second curriculum day is dedicated to report writing.

As per the school Compass calendar two other student free days, which have been approved by school council are Monday 15th July and Monday 4th November.

A staff professional practice day which has also recently been approved by the department to be held as student free day is currently being planned and tabled for school council. Confirmation of this day will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Student free curriculum days are an important part of the school’s planning and professional development plan.

District Cross Country

Last week our cross country team headed off to the District Cross Country Carnival at McIvor Reserve in Yarraville, and what a carnival they had! Our team won their 7th straight district championship for Willy Primary. All participants gave it a red hot go with 17/25 students progressing through to the divisional level. One particular highlight saw the U10 boys take out the top 4 places, which is extraordinary. Well done to all involved and good luck to those progressing through to the next round.

Wellbeing Hub

This week we saw the official opening of our student wellbeing hub. The hub looks to provide a quiet space for students to sit around, socialise and play a range of passive activities and has been a big hit. Our student wellbeing leaders have done a great job managing the opening, which this week sees grade 1 students accessing the space. Over the course of the term, each year level has a week allocated to them to provide the opportunity to explore and enjoy the space. Eventually the space will be open to all year levels at the same time, but in the meantime we are taking things slowly.

Prep Enrolments & School Tours

Our 2025 Prep tours continued today as we hosted our 3rd tour of the year. Our senior JSC continues to do an amazing job engaging with families and giving an insight to life as a Willy Kid from a Willy Kid.

Warm regards,

Mat
