NSW Premier's Reading Challenge 2024

A reminder that the Premier’s Reading Challenge continues, and does not conclude until August 23rd, 2024; so there is still plenty of time to take up the challenge - the Premier’s Reading Challenge! Students can join at any time but the end date will remain the same. If you are having difficulty deciding which book to read next, the following link may be of assistance to you https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/

PRC books can be found in the school library, in the town library, on SORA and on World Book Online. Students could start logging books they have read now! If you are experiencing any problems with accessing or logging books please reach out mholley@arm.catholic.edu.au

If you are interested in perusing the PRC website, you may do so by following the link https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

PLEASE NOTE!! Any books on the list that your child reads (or you read to your child for K - 2) over the school holidays can be counted for this year’s Challenge.

2024 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards

“Children’s Book Week® has had a slogan since 1945. Until 1987 CBCA Branches had created their own posters to illustrate the themes and promote events. Since 1987 there has been a national theme which is chosen and voted on by the CBCA members. Artwork is typically (although not always) developed by the winner of the previous Picture Book of the Year illustrator and used for Children’s Book Week® promotional material and merchandise.”

“With our 2024 Children’s Book Week theme; Reading is Magic, we’re celebrating reading stories and their amazing power to transport minds. We are encouraging kids to be curious about the wonders in our world. It is a positive and affirming message for our young people. The magic of reading also lies in its power of enticement; a good story provokes conversations. Talking about the stories with others connects the reader with other readers. Wrapped around all of this are the “tricks” and skills of our amazing writers and illustrators, as they use all their powers of language and illustration to engage the reader in the world they are building.”

This year’s featured artist is Jess Racklyeft, illustrator of ‘Iceberg’ written by Claire Saxby.

Some Quick Reminders

  • Library Borrowing/Library Bags - borrowing for all students continues to occur on Thursdays and Fridays. Don’t forget that Library bags are a must to ensure the safe transportation of books to and from school.
  • Overdue Books – there has been a steady stream of overdue library books being returned to school, thank you to those families who have located them and sent them in to school, however, there are still overdue books outstanding. Please continue to keep looking for any overdue library books you know you have at home!
  • Safe Book Storage - a reminder to store borrowed library books safely away from little hands, pets, food and water.
  • Book Club - the Book Club catalogue for Term 2 has been distributed and order forms are due on 21st June 2024.
  • Lunch Time in the Library - the library will be open daily for students to enjoy during the second break. So if you would like to find a quiet corner to read a book, solve a jigsaw, draw or colour a picture, play a board game or do some knitting, come on in, you will be most welcome! Hope to see you there!
