This fortnight's Spotlight is on....

STEM

This term, our curious Kindy and Stage 1 crew became mini scientists, exploring all the different materials we see and use every day. From wood to plastic, metal to fabric, we investigated where these materials pop up around our school—and why they’re used in certain ways.

The highlight in Kindergarten  was a very important experiment to help our teddy stay dry! Students tested different materials to find out which one would make the best raincoat. There were splashes, giggles, and lots of clever thinking as we discovered what’s waterproof, what’s not, and what keeps teddy cosy in a storm!

Stage 1 students revisited the classic tale of The Three Little Pigs—but with a twist! Using their imaginations and science skills, they designed clever contraptions to distract the Big Bad Wolf before he could huff, puff, and blow those houses down.

From shiny shields to noisy gadgets, the children experimented with different materials to build their inventions. Their creative thinking and teamwork helped protect the pigs in style!

This term, Stage 2 students explored the environmental challenges of soft plastic waste in Australia. After learning about the problems with disposal and recycling, they put their imaginations to work—repurposing soft plastics to design brand-new products!

From funky fashion to practical inventions, their creations were clever, colourful, and seriously impressive. A brilliant blend of sustainability and creativity!

Over the past 10 weeks, Stage 2 and Stage 3 students have been busy exploring the three states of matter—solids, liquids, and gases. Through hands-on experiments and plenty of curious questions, we discovered how heat can change the shape and state of different materials.

From melting crayons to self inflating balloons, our young scientists had a blast investigating how matter behaves. It’s been a term full of fizz, fun, and fantastic discoveries!
