The roar of engines and the smell of hot rubber and fuel are almost here! Our Year 12 Engineering students are set to showcase their skills and determination as they take their very own fabricated Le Mans race car to the track at Lakeside Raceway in Term 4, Week 1.
Delivered through the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Careers Education Australia (CEA), this course forms part of the Formula High School MEM20422 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways. Over the past two years, our students have been immersed in the Engineering workshop, mastering tools, techniques and problem-solving skills to design and construct their race car completely from scratch.
From welding and fabricating steel (delivered in raw lengths!) to following precise plans under the guidance of their teacher, Mr AJ Gray, every step has been a real-world application of engineering knowledge. Attention to detail and persistence have been key qualities that these students have embraced wholeheartedly.
Beyond the workshop, the course has also encouraged students to build meaningful connections with industry. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the Marist Le Mans car is set to be a real showstopper on race day. And with the backing of Noone Clothing, our students will not only perform like professionals—they’ll look the part too.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our major sponsors: JBE Group, Jentech Electrical, Mr Tuning and Mechanical, and Thermal Edge Coating. Their continued support plays a vital role in the success of this program, as is our own Mr AJ Gray (Engineering Teacher Extraordinaire) for leading the team into battle.
Now, it’s almost time to put all that hard work to the ultimate test in a 6-hour endurance race at Lakeside Raceway. Representing Marist College in this thrilling event will be: Hugo Baker, Joachim Horgan, Andreas Specht, Ethan James and Robert-Roy Peake.
When you see these young men around the College, wish them luck; they’re not just racing for themselves but for the Marist community!
