Term 3

Term 3 Sports News

Students are starting this term by participating in a four-week unit focussed on soccer skills and games. Throughout the unit, they are developing fundamental movement skills and specific techniques. In Week 3, the students began their second round of stations: dribble and shoot, pass and move, pass and follow, and two-versus-two mini soccer games. At these stations, the students applied and combined the skills they learned in the first two weeks to perform more complex manoeuvres. They continue to be reminded of key soccer fundamentals—kicking with the inside of the foot, trapping the ball with the inside of the foot, dribbling using both the inside and outside of the foot, and taking a step back (then stepping near the ball) before shooting at the goal.

Girls Basketball State Knockout

Heart and Hustle: State Knockout Girls Show Unbreakable Spirit in Round 6 Battle

It was a bittersweet day on the court for our State Knockout Girls’ team this past week, as Round 6 delivered a masterclass in resilience, grit, and determination—even when the odds were stacked heavily against them.

The drama began before tip-off. What was scheduled to be a comfortable home-game advantage quickly turned into a logistical nightmare when the two hired, badged referees failed to show up. The mix-up forced the game to be rescheduled as a de facto away game at Regentville the following week, robbing our girls of their home-court energy right from the start.

A Rocky Start and a Captain's Response

Regentville capitalised on the early chaos, jumping out to a 5-point lead as our girls worked to find their rhythm. However, our fearless Captain, Renxuan, was not about to let the team falter. Demonstrating why she wears the captain’s armband, she took charge with a spectacular 3-point play—converting a tough basket and nailing the subsequent free throw. Not content with just that, she immediately stole the ball and calmly levelled the scores.

The first quarter was a true battle for survival. Regentville’s defensive game plan was clear from the start: stop Renxuan at all costs. They threw double and even triple teams at her, but the captain’s footwork and agility allowed her to escape the trap and continue filling the stat sheet.

Disaster Strikes, but a Warrior Emerges

The teams went into the second quarter with scores locked, but disaster was just around the corner. Driving hard between two defenders, Renxuan’s leg was caught, causing her to trip and fall heavily onto her hand. The injury was severe enough to limit her for the rest of the game; she was forced to play with essentially one hand, unable to fully utilize her left arm.

Yet, even this painful setback could not stop her. Playing through visible pain, fatigue, and relentless double-teams, Renxuan continued to score baskets one after another. It was a Herculean, warrior-like performance that kept the team within striking distance.

The Team Steps Up

While the captain fought through the pain, the rest of the squad refused to back down. April was once again a rock on the defensive end, frustrating Regentville’s offensive plays with her solid positioning and tenacity. Meanwhile, Vivian—brought into the game as a key substitute—performed amazingly under pressure, sinking a vital basket in the final quarter to keep the hope alive.

Ultimately, the girls fell just short, losing by a narrow margin of 8 points. But that scoreline does not tell the full story. This was a game decided by unfortunate injuries and external circumstances, not a lack of talent or effort.

A Word from the Coach

"I am so incredibly proud of these girls. Making it to Round 6 is an achievement in itself, and to fight the way they did—through injuries, bad luck, and a hostile environment—shows the true character of this team. We might have lost on the scoreboard, but we won in heart."

Thank You to Our Amazing Parents

A massive thank you goes to our incredible parent community, whose support made the weekend possible. We extend our deepest gratitude to:

Battsetseg Oyunchuulun (Tsenguun's mum)

Nana Keong (Renxuan's mum)

Nie Peng Fei (Vivian's dad)

Mrs Lishan Wei (Michelle's mum)

Thank you for driving, organising, and cheering on the team. Your support is the backbone of our sporting programs, and we couldn’t do it without you.

The State Knockout journey isn't over yet. With this level of determination, we know these girls will bounce back stronger than ever.

D Coon, D So and P Russell,

for the Sports Team.
