Dear CWPS Families,
There are some students at CWPS who prefer a quieter space during lunch time and who are excited to share updates from our school garden with everyone.
Earlier this term, we said farewell to our beloved chickens due to new animal management protocols introduced by the Department of Education. While we were sad to see them go, several teachers kindly adopted them, ensuring they found wonderful new homes. This change has inspired our garden visitors to explore new projects and focus on other aspects of our beautiful space.
Last week, our students harvested sweet potatoes, lettuce and radishes that were planted earlier this year. It was a wonderful experience as they dug for potatoes and marvelled at their impressive size! We have also been picking small yellow tomatoes each week and enjoying an abundance of parsley—perfect for adding fresh flavour to meals.
The garden continues to flourish with new projects. We recently weeded one of our garden beds and planted watermelon seeds. Students are excited to watch their progress and learn about how food grows. We are also keeping a close eye on our oranges, which are ripening and will soon be ready to pick.
Open Day at Carlingford West Public School
On Wednesday the 5th of August, parents and carers were welcomed into Carlingford West Public School to celebrate our Open Day. They first came into our classrooms and did various activities and looked at our work.
It was fun to show our families what we have been doing in our classrooms. After the classroom viewing, we had a picnic lunch. It was so nice to see all the picnic blankets and students enjoying lunch all over our school. It was like a sea of happiness and giggles.
After lunch, parents were welcome to our school hall to see performances from various groups like choir, band and Chinese dances. We also had an art gallery set up in our new library showcasing talented artists from our school.
Parents were able to meet their children's classmates, teachers, and other staff at CWPS. It was so lovely to invite our families to our new school and enjoy the day together.

Year 5 Science
Year 5 students have been exploring the fascinating topic of electricity as part of the NSW Year 5 Science Unit 3. They have learned about the basic principles of electricity and how it moves through different materials. A highlight of the unit has been investigating electricity by constructing their own circuits using wires, batteries, and bulbs. Through these hands-on activities, students have discovered how electricity can be managed and how different components affect the circuit. This practical approach has helped them understand both the science and everyday uses of electricity in the real world.
