Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies

On March 26 our Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class enjoyed travelling to the Mornington Peninsular (Boon Wurrung/Bunurong Country) to participate in snorkelling out in Port Phillip Bay and a visit to Rocky Creek strawberry farm This aligned with Unit 3 Area of Study 2, Relationships with Australian Outdoor Environments in the Past Decade.

The outdoor activities undertaken to enhance their learning and understanding of Unit 3- Changing Human Relationships with Outdoor Environments were snorkelling, walking and strawberry picking as well environmental observation and interpretation.

The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience. We continue to be proud of the Outdoor Education opportunities at Eltham High School.

SSV State Swimming Championships

On Thursday 1 May, 6 students represented Eltham High School at the SSV State Swimming Championships. We had swimmers in 10 individual events and one relay team. Eltham finished 29th overall which is a great effort considering we only had 6 students competing.

Sam Hartley (Year 10, Everard House) was competing at his 4th SSV State Swimming Championships, representing EHS in 2 individual events and a relay. Sam has been very successful at every state final he has competed in, and this year was no different, finishing the day with 2 Bronze medals.

Ben Van Dijk (Year 9, Skipper House) has been a regular member of our Swim Team since he arrived at the school in year 7. He has competed strongly at both District and NMR levels. Ben has continued to dominate throughout the stages again this year finishing the State Finals with a Gold in the 50m Backstroke, Bronze in the 100 Freestyle and Bronze in the 50m Butterfly.

Luca Miraglia (Year 11, Skipper House) represented EHS for the first time at the State Swimming Finals in both the 50m Butterfly and the 50m Freestyle. He swam strongly in both events finishing with Silver in the butterfly and 6th place in the Freestyle.

Archie Bonga (Year 10, Skipper House) is another student who has been a regular member of the EHS swim team throughout his time at Eltham. On Thursday, Archie competed in 3 individual events finishing 6th in all three.

Saxon Schladetesch (Year 10, Toner House), Sam Hartley (Year 10, Everard House), Ben Van Dijk (Year 9, Skipper House) and Fynn Bohan (Year 10, Everard House) also competed in the 4 x 50m medley relay team on the day.

Congratulations to all the boys on their performances the past few months. You have all represented Eltham High with a high level of excellence and sportsmanship. We are very proud of your achievements.

Eltham High School Sports Program

Eltham High School has a very successful Sports Program with plenty of opportunities for students to get involved throughout the year.

Interschool Sport

Eltham High participates in the ‘School Sport Victoria’ sporting program. We enter teams into a Round Robin competition with local schools in the Nillumbik District. Each year level of the school can participate in one Round Robin each term. Different sports are offered in each term and successful teams advance to Region Finals and then State Finals.

The cost for each event per student is $20 in 2025. There are various costs in running the sporting program throughout the school and these include district, regional and state level events. The $20 per event per student is to cover the cost of the program and events and is not limited to the bus/transportation cost alone. However, please note that bus costs are a fixed cost for the event and are not reduced for the school if a student chooses not to take the bus. Eltham High School has kept the cost for the sporting program and these events the same now for four years and is supporting the program as costs have increased. Please note that if a student is taking the bus to the event and is driven by a family member the event cost of $20 is still applicable.

Timetabled Sport – Year 7 & 8

Students in Year 7 and 8 participate in a Sport session once per week. Students participate in a range of sports throughout the term. We aim to provide students with a small taste of a variety of sports, many of which are offered in the Inter-School Sports Program. Participation is the main goal of these sessions and students are encouraged to experience a range of games. There is an expectation the students change into their PE uniforms for this session – we would greatly appreciate your assistance in ensuring PE uniforms are brought to school for both PE and Sport sessions.
