Whole School Assembly

Whole School Assembly: A Celebration of Belonging at Northcote

Once a year, every student and staff member at Northcote High comes together to celebrate who we are as a school community, and this year’s whole school assembly was a powerful reminder of just how special that is.

After a night of rain, many of us woke up nervously checking the sky, hoping the weather would hold. Thankfully, it did, and under a rare patch of clear skies, we gathered on the oval for a morning of unity, pride, and inspiration.

This year’s theme was 'belonging', the idea that everyone has a place here to be their full, authentic selves. As Year 12 captains, we were proud to curate an assembly that celebrated the diversity, spirit, and values that make Northcote what it is.

We were lucky to hear from some truly inspiring speakers. Mr Jones and Ms Lange shared powerful reflections on community and growth. Three of our 2024 school captains returned to speak about life beyond Northcote and how their experiences at school shaped them. It was incredible to hear how their journeys are unfolding just months after finishing Year 12.

A standout moment was hearing from Todd Truong, a Global Youth Ambassador from UNICEF. Todd encouraged us to use our voices for good and reminded us that real change starts locally. His words lit a fire in many of us, showing that leadership isn’t about age or title, but about action.

Of course, no Northcote assembly would be complete without amazing performances. We were treated to a fantastic set by both the Junior and Senior Stage Bands, and a stunning intermission performance by Harmony Vocal that had the crowd completely captivated.

Bringing an event of this scale to life is no small task, it takes weeks of planning and teamwork. But standing in front of our school, looking out at a sea of students and staff, it’s always worth it. This assembly wasn’t just about tradition. It was about connection. And as leaders, we felt incredibly proud to help create that moment.
