From the Principal

As we reach the midpoint of the term, our students continue to be involved in a wide range of events, sporting activities, and competitions. It’s been a busy and engaging start to Term 2.
This week, our Year 9 students undertaking the City School elective have been out in the city completing fieldwork for their inquiry projects. From 2026, City School will be included in the Year 9 Elective model. It will be interesting to see how many students choose to take part, with so many excellent offerings available as part of the program.
Wednesday (Week 7) will be a shortened day for all students, as we host our Course Selection Expo onsite in the afternoon and evening in The Hub. This event marks the beginning of the subject selection and course counselling process for our current Year 8–11 students, as they start planning their 2026 courses. It’s an important and exciting time, and I encourage families to attend the relevant year level information sessions—please remember to register if you’d like to join.
Last fortnight, a group of our Music students travelled interstate to perform at the Generations in Jazz competition—a significant event on the music calendar. Congratulations to all the students and staff involved and thank you for representing Northcote High with such talent and commitment. As they return, our Outdoor Education classes are heading off on their first camp experience this week.
This week also sees the release of our second round of Learning Behaviour Reports (LBRs), which offer valuable feedback to support students in reflecting on their learning habits and growth.
You’ll also find in this newsletter an article celebrating last month’s Whole School Assembly—a great opportunity to come together as a school community and recognise student achievement and contribution.
Looking ahead, if you’re interested in helping to shape our Centenary celebrations or learning more about the school’s history, please get in touch via info@nhs.vic.edu.au to receive an invitation to our first planning meeting.
Finally, the Friends of Northcote committee has started preparations for this term’s TalkFest event. Further details are included later in the newsletter.
I hope to see many of you at one of our upcoming events!
