House News

Welcome Mabo Students and Families,

We have had an exciting start to Term 2 with a series of engaging and enriching events. From health and fitness to future pathways and number-crunching fun, our students have hit the ground running. Here's a quick look at what's been happening around the school.

Health and PE Week Promotes Active Living

Health and PE Week got Term 2 off to a flying start! Students participated in a range of activities promoting physical activity, wellbeing, and teamwork. Highlights included daily fitness challenges, lunchtime games, and health-focused classroom lessons. The week was a great reminder of the importance of staying active and looking after both our physical and mental health.

Thanks to the Health and PE Team.

Maths Week Adds Up to Fun

Maths Week brought excitement into every classroom as students engaged in puzzles, competitions, and problem-solving challenges. Daily riddles, maths trivia, and the much-anticipated Kahootz Contest had everyone talking numbers! It was fantastic to see students having fun while strengthening their mathematical thinking.

Thank you to our Maths teachers.

ACER Testing – Showing What We Know

This term also saw students undertaking ACER testing across various year levels. These assessments help us understand student progress and identify areas for future growth. We’re proud of the effort our students put in and thank staff for their support in making testing run smoothly.

The results will guide Course Counselling conversations in the coming weeks- thankyou to our Literacy and Numeracy Teams for all their effort in this space.

Careers Week Inspires Future Pathways

Careers Week encouraged students to think about their future goals and the pathways to reach them. A variety of workshops, guest speakers, and interactive activities gave students insights into different industries, study options, and career possibilities. From apprenticeships to university courses, students explored a world of opportunity.

Many of our YR 10 students are undertaking Work Experience (starting Monday 19 May). Good luck- we know you will be nervous, however will be brilliant.

Here are two additional newspaper-style articles for your school newsletter, covering

National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week:

National Sorry Day – A Time to Reflect

On May 26, our school will observed National Sorry Day, a day of remembrance and reflection. Students will learn about the Stolen Generations and the impact of past government policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through class discussions and activities, we will acknowledge the pain caused and the importance of listening, learning, and walking together toward healing and justice.

Reconciliation Week – Now More Than Ever

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Bridging Now to Next,” reminded us, that reconciliation is an ongoing journey, urging us to look ahead and continue the push forward towards a more united and respectful nation as past lessons guide us.

From May 27 to June 3, students will engage in storytelling, art, and cultural learning experiences that deepened their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Reconciliation Week encourages every Australian to play their part in creating a fairer, more inclusive nations.
