This Friday will be a busy day. All students are asked to show their support for Do It For Dolly Day – wear something blue and bring along a gold coin donation to help make a difference to end bullying! Parents Club are also running a ‘Mini Fete’ this Friday, for students only. Available for purchase are gifts for Mum, lollies, novelties and BBQ food. The fete is cashless, so please remember to pre-purchase your tickets.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

Will be held the following Wednesday, the 14th of May. I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to meet with staff to share your child’s learning experiences. The College doesn’t put out interim reports, so this is the only opportunity to discuss where your child is at with their teachers.

Weekly Wrap: Year 8

Year 8 Science:

Year 8's are learning to use microscopes in Science. Eventually, they will prepare their own slides to study cells!

Year 8 IT

This term so far, the Year 8s have been learning about programming and coding. So far, they have learned about pseudocode, a way to describe the steps of an algorithm using human-readable English. They have also revised what it means when an algorithm branch (a decision is made based on some information and the program does one thing or another) and when an algorithm iterates (a section of code loops until an action has been completed). The Year 8s have also been following along to some tutorials to learn more about coding in a program called ‘Scratch’.

Year 8 Health

Year 8 Design and Technology – F1 in Schools

To start the term, the Year 8s were given an opportunity to practice their drawing skills by drawing different racing cars. This segued into getting the class to start drawing designs for the miniature F1 cars they will be designing on computer in a couple of weeks. Last Friday, the class had a physics lesson learning about Newton’s Third Law of Motion (For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction). That allowed them to understand how their F1 cars will be powered when they race them at the end of the term. This week, the class has been learning more about car design by researching different designs of Matchbox or Hot Wheels toy cars.
