Year 10 English

We are continuing to explore how the way we express ourselves can impact how our messages are received. The Year 10's have started adapting texts to suit different purposes, audiences and contexts and identifying how language can be empowering or disempowering. They have also created various raps and poems to express their ideas in different text modes. In the coming weeks, we will start to unpack techniques to create multimodal presentations and how to ensure our voice remains powerful.

Year 9 and 10 Buloke Youth Health Expo

Yesterday, the Year 9 and 10 students attended the Buloke Youth Health Expo in Birchip. The day focused on health and lifestyle issues faced by young people. The students engaged with expert presenters teaching about key topics including nutrition, mental health, and CPR. During lunch, there were a range of activities for students to engage with including making a smoothie on a smoothie bike, practicing CPR and the use of a defibrillator, and reaction time activities.

Year 10 Science

Year 10s have started learning about acceleration, which is a change in velocity. On Monday, they took some data, which they will use to calculate the acceleration of a ball rolling down the ramp outside.

Art: Making and Exhibiting excursion- Horsham Regional Art Gallery

The Art: Making & Exhibiting class (Annie, Georgia & Poppy) recently travelled to the Horsham Regional Art Gallery as part of their Unit 3 studies.

The class viewed the ‘Simon Fisher: from red earth and big sky’ exhibition and were fortunate to receive an enjoyable and informative floor talk from the exhibition curator, Lauren van Katwyk. The girls also spent time viewing the Salt, Sky & Dust: A Wimmera palette exhibition. Both exhibitions provided the students with the opportunity to learn about the role of the curator, curatorial content & exhibition design. As an extra special (and unexpected) bonus, we were taken into the gallery storage facility, where we got a rare sneak peek into the storage space. This provided a wonderful insight into the conservation and preservation practices of the gallery, which the girls will find very useful when undertaking their Unit 4 studies.
