Celebrating IDAHOBIT Day at Homestead
Last week, Homestead Secondary College proudly celebrated IDAHOBIT Day (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia). The day began with rainbow-coloured pancakes before school, followed by lunchtime bracelet-making, mindfulness colouring activities, and free snacks kindly provided by Youth Services.
These vibrant and engaging activities not only brought our school community together but also carried an important message: standing up against discrimination and encouraging acceptance for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. Our students showed incredible leadership and spirit, creating an inclusive and supportive environment that reflects our core values at Homestead.
Celebrating diversity aligns deeply with Homestead’s core values:
- Purpose – We take intentional action to build a community where every individual feels seen and respected.
- Curiosity – We seek to learn about each other’s identities, cultures, and experiences to grow in empathy and understanding.
- Innovation – We create new ways to engage students in inclusive practices that reflect a changing and diverse world.
- Resilience – We stand strong together against intolerance, supporting one another through challenges and celebrating each other’s uniqueness.
