Reconciliation Week

đ¤đâ¤ď¸ Reconciliation Week: Walking Together, Building Respect đâ¤ď¸đ¤
âReconciliation is not a one-week event â itâs a lifelong commitment to truth, respect and unity.â
Â
As a Murrung Champion, Iâm proud to stand with our school community during National Reconciliation Week â a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared history, celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and work together towards a more just and equitable future.
Â
This year's theme, âNow More Than Everâ, reminds us that reconciliation is not just symbolic â it's a daily action. It calls on each of us to be active participants in creating a country where the histories, voices, and rights of First Nations peoples are respected and heard.
Â
At Homestead Senior Secondary College, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land we learn on, and we honour their continuing connection to Country, culture, and community. As Murrung Champions, we are here to lead, educate, and support our peers in understanding what true reconciliation means â beyond words, and into action.
Here's how you can get involved during Reconciliation Week:
- Attend events at school that celebrate Indigenous culture and history.
- Listen and learn from First Nations perspectives â in class, in books, in the stories shared.
- Acknowledge Country respectfully and meaningfully.
- Challenge racism and stereotypes when you see them.
- Take small steps â because every step matters.
Why does it matter?
Reconciliation is about building relationships based on trust and truth. Itâs about acknowledging past injustices and working together for a future where everyone has equal opportunity and respect. This journey starts with understanding, compassion, and education â values we stand by every day at HSSC.
Letâs make Reconciliation Week more than just a week. Letâs carry it with us in everything we do, every day.
