PERFORMING ARTS

Welcome to Performing Arts in Term 2. This term we will be focusing on Drama.

For Years 5/6 this will be very exciting because in the next few weeks we will begin Drama Workshops with Kylie Murray (one of our very talented parents) as the students get themselves ready for the auditions for this year’s school production “Toys” It’s the main point of conversation amongst the older students and we will start auditions in early May. So we have a short while for students to prepare. Next week they will receive their audition scripts.

Meanwhile in Years 3/4 we will be looking at Mime and Movement and the skills involved in communicating ideas through gestures and actions, without the use of speaking. Maybe we will find our next Marcel Marceau or Mr. Bean!

Our focus in Foundation to Year 2 will be Playbuilding and Role Play. Playbuilding is a form of classroom drama that encourages students to collaborate and think creatively.

Role-play is an important part of playbuilding, where students develop characters as we learn to create a piece of drama.

VISUAL ARTS

In Foundation, students have just begun exploring the work of Joan Miró, focusing on his piece Sun Eater and using primary colours to create imaginative artworks.

Year 1/2 students are beginning a unit on Paul Klee, using his abstract style to guide the creation of unique self-portraits.

Year 3/4 students have started working with clay to learn the pinch pot technique, building the foundations for their ceramic pieces.

In Year 5/6, students are being introduced to one-point perspective and are starting to create optical illusions with shapes.
