SUSTAINABILITY UPDATES

Hello Rippers,

We hope you enjoyed a restful break over the holidays, ate lots of chocolate, recycled all that easter egg foil, and the green thumbs among you squeezed in some time in your gardens!

The sustainability team have spent some time over the past month sprucing up some garden spaces in our beautiful school. The Koor Garden has had a revamp, with Salt Bush and Warrigal Greens added – once these take off they can be used in cooking. Salt Bush is an Indigenous plant, can be a hedge or groundcover, and has beautiful silver-grey foliage. Warrigal Greens, native to the coastal areas of Southern Australia, are a fabulous ground cover and are great in salads (similar to spinach). They are rich in vitamin K, C and B6.

The garden space by the Japanese classroom has been designated to grow some Japanese veggies and herbs to support our language program. Shiso plants and seeds for Japanese varieties of spring onions and mizuna have been planted, and we look forward to sharing our experiments in growing these plants alongside the kids with you all.

We will be back in the Junior Garden with the F-2 student gardeners next week. We are excited to see how the carrots, radishes, peas, beans, broccoli and greens planted at the end of term 1 have tracked over the holidays.

Until next time,

Sustainability Team
