Celebrating Learning

What we have been up to:

PBL (play-based learning):

We have been learning about and identifying personal strengths that we see in ourselves and value in others. Last week we all wore our superhero capes and wore our chosen personal strength - LOUD & PROUD! This week we have been looking at the strengths that we would like to nurture and grow - likening this to a seed and what it needs to grow, we have been discussing what strengths need to grow.

Maths:

This week we are starting a shape unit with a shapes walk. In early years learning, geometry involves learning about our world and then extending ideas to abstract relationships and concepts.

In Number, we are learning to Trust-the-Count, this part-part-whole knowledge of the numbers is essential in building a sense of number.

Reading:

After lunch each day we read a class novel or picture book to students. This is a much-anticipated part of the day where students practise reading comprehension skills.

In our reading groups over the past two weeks, we have been focussing on the following sounds:

Juliette and Jess:

  • /d/ as in dog
  • /g/ as in goat
  • /l/ as in lion

Matt was learning:

  • /ay/ as in play
  • /ai/ as in snail

Steph was learning:

  • /or/ as in sport

What’s to come in the next two weeks:

  • On Thursday the 22nd the Preston Proactive Policing unit are visiting TPS to speak to the Y1/2s to speak about bullying prevention and cyber safety
  • The Wurundjeri incursion is happening on Friday the 23rd
  • It has been great to watch our F/1 students get into the routine of reading their readers and changing their books. Keep bringing those readers back
  • We will continue to use our story grammar flashcards and actions when reading a story
  • Please keep sending spare clothes as PBL can be very messy!

Warmly,

Juliette and Jess
