Recorders Hitting All the Right Notes!
Students in Year 2 - 4 continue their journey with Recorders this term.
Yr 2 Students have been learning and playing patterns of long and short notes to create a piece of music and then… creating their own!
In other learning we have been playing music games and have learned a new echo song to sing called the Moose song.
The moose song is a popular song to sing at camp in Canada.
Here are the lyrics for a sing-a-long at home:
1. There was a great big moose (echo)He liked to drink a lot of juice. (echo)There was a great big moose (echo)He liked to drink a lot of juice. (echo)
Singing oh way oh, (echo)Way oh, way oh, way oh, way oh, (echo)Way oh, way oh, (echo)Way oh, way oh, way oh, way oh, (echo)
2. The moose’s name was Fred. (echo)He liked to drink his juice in bed. (echo)The moose’s name was Fred. (echo)He liked to drink his juice in bed. (echo)
The amazing Year 3/4s have been practicing their recorder techniques of warm breath and no leaks to work towards their White, Yellow and Orange Belts! They are becoming more independent in their music learning and even Leigh thinks they sound significantly better than at the start of the year 😉 (we are often outside at the same time as Leigh is teaching PE). Along the way we have had heaps of fun playing Eye of The Tiger!
Learning the recorder is a great way to develop skills in reading and writing music with traditional notation which we will continue this term.
The funky F/1s have continued singing and moving and playing! We have begun to jam with un-tuned percussion instruments, exploring loud and soft. Foundation students have settled into a school rhythm and are making beautiful sounds.
BOITE SCHOOLS CHORUS!
The TPS choir has been invited again to participate in the Boite Schools Chorus! This year’s theme is celebrating songs from Timor-Leste. Being involved is a great experience for the kids, who learn songs in another language, learn about the country and culture and then Sing with 300+ students at The Melbourne Town Hall in August.
If your child is interested in joining the Choir, please get in touch.

YEAR 6 BAND
In Year 6 Band we have been learning 7 Nation Army and revising APT. Last term we were rehearsing on Fridays but because of schedule changes with the leader/teacher/parent of the band Kirsty Letts (who is a volunteer), we have switched to Tuesday mornings at 10 past 8. So if you're in year 6 and want to play in a fun, non-judgemental band, then come and play with us on Tuesday morning at 10 past 8. 🎤🎸🎻🎹🥁
