Democracy and Bunnings sausages walked out the door over Saturday and Sunday. Thank you Mel & Josh Lucas for organising both our Parent Association BBQ’s last weekend. One of the comments on our school Facebook page couldn’t have said it better with “absolute legends”. A huge shout out to all our helpers. Thank you also to our chefs and cooks for making our Bake Sale such a winner.
Over recent weeks in newsletters and Two Minute Tuesdays, we have been sharing details about our High Impact Learner Agency Trait’s (HILAT’s) which has been built around a four-stage continuum.
Our students need a continuum to learn because learning happens gradually, not all at once. A "continuum" means a smooth, connected progression. Students don’t jump from beginner to expert instantly — they grow step-by-step. A continuum gives them:
Without a continuum, learning would feel like trying to climb a ladder with missing rungs — confusing, frustrating, and discouraging.
The picture shows the first stages of “Acting with Courage”:
1 - PROTECTIVE OF SELF: Directed / Diligent Learner
2- OPEN TO TRYING: Self-regulated Learner
You can read the sentences within both Protective of Self and Open to Trying and see the gradual increase or build as our students learn more about what acting with courage looks like. These clear statements enable our students to know where they are going, how they can build their skills and have agency in their learning.
You can also see by one the picture we have included what this looks like in Prep. Even at this early stage we have students sharing that they can Act with Courage by “trying new things” and when you feel nervous to do something but you do it anyway”. This is such important learning, and can you imagine what these students will be like when they reach Year 6!
This is a friendly reminder that dogs are not allowed on the school grounds. This includes the time before and after school. Please contact the office if there is a dog in the school yard and they will direct one of our Principal team to assist.
Excursions and incursions certainly offer our students rich and engaging learning opportunities. They are also often some of the most memorable events and experiences students remember during their time at our school. They are also a significant load for our staff to organise and run.
As such we need your support in finalising permissions and any associated payments 48 hours prior to the event.
This allows time for staff to make final checks on numbers and print out all the required paperwork and handbooks. These include the emergency contact details of those that attend so that in the case of an emergency we can ensure we have everything we need. These handbooks are printed and distributed to all staff attending and a copy is also left at the school office. Our staff need to complete this on the day before the event to minimise all the other requirements needed to do on the day itself.
This process will be strictly enforced. We will be unable to make telephone calls home on the morning of an event to follow up any missing permissions. If you are having trouble accessing Compass, need a hard copy of a permission form or require support to make a payment please let the office team know. We do not want any students to miss these opportunities and will do everything to support you prior to the day to ensure that everything is organized as it should be.
Happy Mother’s & Special Person's Day this Sunday. I know our Parent Association stall on Thursday is always a special part of the day and seeing our students taking their time to shop and find something special to purchase as a gift is a real highlight.
On behalf of our whole Greenhills school community, we wish our mums and special people a very happy day. We hope that you know how much you mean to us and how grateful we are for everything you do for us.
James Penson,
Principal.
