YEAR 8
Building Strong Connections
YEAR 8
Building Strong Connections
Head of Year 8
As part of our ongoing commitment to student well-being and respectful relationships, Year 8 students will participate in the Collective Shout sessions next week. These sessions are designed to challenge some of the harmful messages young people are exposed to through the media and online platforms. Delivered respectfully and age-appropriate, the presentations encourage students to reflect critically, clarify their values, and build empathy as they navigate adolescence.
In preparation for the upcoming Year 8 Camp, students will participate in a tent assembly and dismantling session during Sport on Tuesday of Week 5 (May 20). Students who have nominated that they will supply a tent for their group are asked to bring their tent to school on this day for the practice session. As part of our planning arrangements, we also wish to remind families that mobile phones are not permitted on camp. Due to the island location, limited storage options, and the fact that staff will also be camping, we strongly recommend that devices be left at home. Thank you for your support in ensuring a smooth and positive camp experience for all students.
As part of their Geography assessment, Year 8 students will participate in a fieldwork excursion to Holloways Beach on Wednesday, 28 May. This experience supports their study of coastal landscapes and will involve data collection through observation and field sketches.
Students will travel during school hours (9:00 am–12:30 pm) and are required to wear their formal uniform with their College hat. They should also bring a water bottle, a pencil case, and a non-perishable snack. Sunscreen will be provided.
School bags and phones will remain at school unless prior approval is arranged for medical reasons. If you have any concerns, please contact your child’s Humanities teacher or the Head of Humanities.
The school fees and levies for Term 2 were emailed to all account holders in Week 3.
Full payment is due by Wednesday, 21 May. If you are unable to pay in full by the due date, please contact the Accounts Team to arrange an approved payment plan with the College.
We warmly invite our current families to join us for Open Evening — a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding of the learning and co-curricular opportunities available to your child. Hear an update from Principal Kerry Manders, connect with your child’s PG Mentor and subject teachers, sample the home-cooked snacks in the Green Leaf Café and explore the spaces where learning comes to life!
You’ll also have the opportunity to provide feedback or ask questions directly to the College Leadership Team. For catering purposes, please be sure to register!

Feedback Surveys will be conducted during Weeks 6-8 of Term 2, May 26 – June 13, to enable the analysis of results to be incorporated into the school's annual planning processes.
All parents and staff will be invited by email from CES to complete the survey, and all students in Years 5, 6, 8, and 11. We estimate that the survey will take up to 20 minutes to complete. All surveys are anonymised in the Survey Manager system, with email reminders sent weekly to non-respondents. Please don't share your survey link - families, staff, and students must access it in their email.
Enjoy your weekend; we look forward to welcoming students back to the College on Monday!
