ANZAC Day is a significant occasion in the Australian and New Zealand calendar, marking the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. It is a day of national remembrance to honour the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in conflicts around the world. More than just a reflection on the past, ANZAC Day reminds us of the values of friendship, perseverance and unity that continue to shape our national identity.
This year, Oakleigh Grammar proudly participated in several events to mark the 110th Anniversary of ANZAC Day. Our Junior, Middle Senior School Captains attended the local Dawn Service at Oakleigh, paying tribute in the quiet, early hours alongside members of the community. It was a solemn and moving moment, reinforcing the deep respect we hold for those who served.
Later that morning, SRC members also took part in the official ANZAC Day Parade on St Kilda Road, representing our school with pride as they held the banner for the 2/2 Field Regiment Association. This honorable role allowed them to walk in solidarity with veterans and their families, symbolising the passing of memory and gratitude from one generation to the next.
In addition, on Monday 28 April, our Middle School Leaders attended the Melbourne Legacy’s 93rd Annual ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students. Surrounded by thousands of young people from across Victoria, our students listened to stories of service and sacrifice, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the ANZAC spirit.
Being part of these commemorations is a powerful reminder of how history lives through us. As a school, we are committed to ensuring our students understand the importance of remembering those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today. Their involvement in these events is not only a sign of respect but also a promise to never forget. Lest we forget!
