Our learning:

Reading and Writing

This term we have learnt the diagraphs ph, wh, ai, ay, ee, ea and we will be learning   igh and ie. Students will be reading and writing words such as pies, shy, fright, tie and sty. Students will be reading and writing sentences such as ‘My little kitten is very shy.’ We like climbing high in the tree.’ We will be discussing the characters featured in the text and writing about them. The heart words we have learnt so far are ‘who’, ‘what’, ‘when’, ‘where’, ‘of ‘, off’ and we will be learning the words ‘you’ and ‘why’.

Maths

Students will be exploring concepts in addition and subtraction. They will be using a variety of concrete materials to solve addition and subtraction problems and recoding a matching number sentence. For example 4+5=9 and 10-6=4. We will be encouraging students to use mathematical language when they describe their solutions. For example students may say, “I have two tall flowers and three short flowers left in my garden.”

Children learn important maths concepts through play. Here is a link to a Maths game you could play at home:

Inquiry

This term our topic is ‘Our Sustainable World’. Students will be learning about the conditions required for sustaining the environment so they will be able to care for the world around us. We have planted some vegetables and we are expecting them to sprout with just water and sunlight. Here is a photograph of the first stage. Stay tuned for some follow up pictures later in the term!

Wellbeing

During Wellbeing we will be discussing what positive play looks and students will participate in games where they can practice co-operating with others. We will also explore thinking strategies that assist us to make good decisions at school.

Reminders

Hats are required for Term 4

Students can log into Reading Eggs and Mathletics at home. Login details are pasted at the back of the Boomerang book. These are great resource for children to practice phonics and explore maths.

We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Celebration of Learning

The Preps went of a 'Word Hunt' to find words that contain the diagraphs we have been learning recently. They worked collaboratively to create large colourful posters filled with many words. Well done Preps!
