1,000 Paper Cranes
A Year 8 student asked library staff to help promote making 1,000 paper cranes for peace.
We agreed it was a worthwhile activity highlighting innocent victims of war. It has been wonderful to watch students from all year levels contribute to the display.
Initially we all struggled to make just one – but perseverance helped and soon we had 300. Special thanks to teacher Danielle Maggi who donated 274 floral paper cranes.
According to Japanese tradition, folding 1,000 paper cranes gives a person a chance to make one special wish come true. The crane is believed to live for 1,000 years, highlighting the meaning behind folding 1,000 cranes.
Paper cranes are made from a variety of coloured squares and are displayed hanging in our school library windows.
