Reading

CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Reading this week we will be learning about at character traits. We know that characters are all different and have different traits and we will be exploring that through a range of fiction texts this week.

When we think about character traits we are thinking about the type of character they are and the words we can use to describe the type of person/animal/creature that they are.

VOCABULARY

Traits: A quality or characteristic that a character is. For example: kind, shares, brave, rude, untrustworthy etc. The parts of their personality and the choices they make that form who they are. This is how you would describe them to somebody else.

Fiction: A made up story, pretend, not real.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

After reading a fiction text ask your child to draw a picture of the main character in the text. Discuss with your child the words that you could use to describe the type of character they are/their personality/traits.

Get your child to write these traits around the character or put them into sentences.
