This week's notes

Dear families and friends,

End of Year Assessment

Over the next 3 weeks teaching staff will be conducting end of year assessments. These are an essential tool in determining student progress throughout the year. It is important that student absences are kept to a minimum so testing is not disrupted. Your support is appreciated. Thank you.

Casual Clothes Day

On Monday 6th November, the Junior School Council is having a Casual Clothes Day.

If you wish to wear casual clothes you will need to make a gold coin donation.

Monies raised will go towards buying a gift from the World Vision Christmas Gift Catalogue. These gifts may provide a life changing item for needy communities eg. seed bank, chickens, pigs, a teacher, fresh water, goats etc.

The JSC have a couple of other fund raising ideas for the term to help build funds. Stay tuned!

World Teacher's Day

Today was World Teacher's Day, a day to celebrate and thank our teachers for the wonderful work they do.  The Cavendish teachers had a lovely surprise when our students all wore a funky hat to school so they could 'Take Hats Off To Teachers'. Tammy also organised a certificate and treat bag for all the teachers. Thank you everyone... together we all make a great school!

Birdlife and Wildlife talk

On Wednesday afternoon this week we were given an informative talk by Rod Bird and Dianne Luhrs from the Hamilton Field Naturalists and Samantha Greiner from Birdlife Hamilton. They told us about the local species of animals that we might expect to inhabit our nesting boxes and why it is important to look after them. We all then went outside to discover what interesting creatures and plants we could find in our school playground.

Next Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm the Year 4/5/6 will be heading up to the Cavendish Men's Shed to help construct the nesting boxes.

If you are interested in helping with this project you are most welcome to join us!

Blast Cricket

Pedrina Park provided a typically cold and gloomy day for this event but out cricket team's enthusiasm could not be dampened. Thank you to Miss McLeod, Trish, Callie and Paul for helping the children on the day and anyone else who assisted. Our team won 2 out of 3 matches:

Rd 1- Coleraine Combined 106 lost to Cavendish 119

Rd 2 - Tarrington Lutheran School 136 defeated Cavendish 65

Rd 3 - Cavendish 145 defeated Hamilton College Navy 100

Congratulations to everyone who played and supported our team.

Dis-Glo

IT'S TONIGHT!!!

Running from 6pm - 8pm with dinner provided. Don't forget to wear your white painted t-shirts or fluoro tops and bring your dancing shoes. See you at the Cavendish SM Hall tonight!

Fleece and Flower - Mystery Jars

The Fleece and FlowerShow is coming up on Friday 10th November. The school will be running a stall with games for children. We ask if each family can provide 1 or 2 wrapped Mystery Jars that we can sell for $3.00 each.

Jars can be delivered to school from November 6th to 10th.

Mystery Jars are jars filled with goodies, wrapped in wrapping paper to conceal the contents. Each jar is given a number, if you select number 21 you get Jar 21.

Food Allergies at school

Just a friendly reminder that we recommend that students do not bring food items containing  peanut butter, nut products such as hazelnut spreads, eggs, kiwi fruit and cherries to school as we have a student and staff member who may have an anaphylactic reaction.

Principal's meeting next Tuesday and Thursday

I will be attending two different Principal Forum's next week. These provide valuable support and information that will impact on all schools. Mrs. Murray will be taking Year 2/4 on these days.

New garden beds

A big thank you to Claire Quinn for organising two new garden beds for the Environment Centre.  We always appreciate the time that Claire puts into our gardens. The new garden beds were very kindly donated by the Bendigo Bank, Dunkeld.   Thank you to the Bendigo Bank Board for granting our sponsorship application.  See the Year 5/6 page for some pics.

Mrs Bell's holiday

It looks like Mrs Bell has been having a wonderful time overseas.  She has sent in some photos for us to show you.  The photos are of the Salvador Dali museum in Figueres, Spain, Park Guell in Barcelona which was designed by renowned architect Antonio Gaudi and the photo that looks like the colosseum is in the ancient arena in Arles, France.  Mrs Bell said that they have been to lots of places, eaten French crepes, lots of beautiful cheeses and good French wines and SNAILS!

We look forward to hearing all about Mrs Bell's trip when she returns to school the week starting 6th November.

Have a great weekend
