Year 4 Urban Gardening

Gardening this week was nice because we were out in the sunshine. I was in the planting group. Abi, Zacky and I were given the task of planting marigolds. We had to fill the bottom of the pots with bark, then dump soil in the pot, and then plant in the marigolds. Next came watering (because it was a hot day) so it was obviously needed. I think I overwatered the marigolds, but I think they’re okay.

For this week's gardening my group did composting. First, I needed to chop up fruit with a shovel and it was really fun, then I chucked it into the compost worm farm. Then I mixed it all up and gave it to the worms. Next, I turned the compost with a compost turner. Our BRPS garden is getting better and better, if you have time, please check it out.

Our Market Garden Stall

On 3rd November, Year 4 held an Urban Garden Market sale. We sold $90 of produce and plants. The year 4 circles and squares groups harvested rhubarb, silver beet, potatoes, cos lettuce and herbs from our veggie garden to sell. We sold lemons, rosemary, thyme, lettuce, marigolds, and more. We harvested fruit and veggies, chopped them, washed them and sold them. We have garden sessions each Friday and work on growing plants and improving our soil quality. Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Hewitt, our Year 4 teachers for their help. Thank you to all the parents who bought from the stall.
