Year 9 Science

Students in Year 9 science classes have been learning about light waves. As part of the unit of work, they learn about how we see. This week students dissected bull's eyeballs to better understand the structure and function of the mammalian eye. Whilst a little bit gross, the activity was enjoyed by all.

Energy topic - Rubber Band Races

Year 7.4 Science have been learning about energy and how it is created, stored and used. This week they developed their own science practical. By using different sized rubber bands to sling either a small, medium or large “car” along the tables they could measure the distance travelled.

I was impressed with their understanding of the concepts, their initiative and their capacity to engage in a practical experience that created data for later use. The data will be used to determine average distances travelled and to see whether a smaller or larger rubber band will allow the cars to move the greatest distance.

Many positive incident awards related to academic achievement and behaviour were earned by the class during the week.
