We’re thrilled to announce that we have received a 2023 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant to help install additional compost bins in our primary school.
With more compost bins around our school we hope to begin reducing our waste by turning our food scraps into compost. The grant money will also help to provide composting caddies for each class so that we can easily collect our crunch and sip scraps ready to compost.
The Stage 2 Environment Club have been working hard to select the best locations for our new compost bins. This term they will also be visiting classrooms to help teach about the importance of composting and how to use our new compost systems.
Our school is one of 1,107 primary schools and early learning centres across Australia to receive a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions.
The children and teachers are looking forward to getting their hands dirty and learning from this project – we’ll keep you updated! To learn more about Junior Landcare grants check out their website. You can even find our school composting project on their interactive map https://juniorlandcare.org.au/
On Tuesday 24 October, a beautiful sunny morning, a little lamb visited NCS. Kindergarten was elated to meet this cute and cuddly mammal.
The little lamb called "Ginger Cloud" seemed to be just as excited to meet all the small humans in Kindergarten. It happily skipped along as each student took it for a little walk. The lamb was even a bit bossy when it came to drinking from its bottle. Four of our students held the small bottle of milk in a firm grip so little Ginger Cloud wouldn't push it out of their hands. Ginger also had a bite of straw.
Despite all the eating and drinking, there was thankfully no toileting on our lawn by little Ginger as she wore a cute white nappy for this special occasion. Kindergarten and all of NCS would like to thank the Beattie family and Mrs Green for organising this memorable moment while we learn everything about sheep this week. as part of our farm unit.
Tuesday of Week 2, Term 4, saw about 75 NCS students from Stage 3 meet with their counterparts from other local Christian Schools in the area to play some fun games of Aus-Tag. They also participated in skills clinics which were run by The St George Illawarra Dragons Ruby League Club.
Upon arrival at the grounds in Albion Park we split into teams and the boys headed straight off to play some matches whilst our girls practiced their skills with some innovative drills that Kyle and his team of coaches put on.
Half way through the day we had a lunch break for a sausage sizzle and some fizzy drink refreshments! Mmmmmmm! Ahhhhhhhh!
After about a half hour of intermittent rain the sun shone once again and we headed out to have the second half of our day. The girls teams played their fun matches and the boys were split into groups to rotate through some skills sessions with the Dragons coaches.
Once again the heavens opened and we got rained upon. Clothes and bags soon dried and although hats and hair might have been dampened our spirits weren't! We finished with more food and then some play time whilst we prepared to return to school.
Will A: "My highlight was in game 1, when I kicked the ball, ran after it and scored a try. I think I scored six or seven tries in total."
William A: "I really enjoyed it when I did two 180 degree turns and then scored a try."
Josh A: " I made a good run with the ball and got tackled I thought I'd had my tags taken off, but I hadn't so I kept running before I eventually got tagged. I also enjoyed tackling the best player (from the opposition) when I took his tag."
Alex W: "I enjoyed 'taking people out', but after a while I got shouldered in the face (ouch!). I scored about three tries, one of which was in the corner."
Our students were a credit to NCS and their families participating with fairness and good grace throughout.
On the last day of Term 3, Stage 2 students played friendly games of soccer and netball against Stage 2 students from NAC.After an extremely hot start to the week and some rain the day before, Friday’s weather was perfect for outdoor sport.
This annual get-together to compete with another Christian School in these two sports allows many students the opportunity to play organised sport for fun without being highly competitive.
Special thanks to Mr Tasker and some high school students for coaching the soccer players and helping to referee on the day. Many thanks to Mrs Parker and Mrs Morris and their high school helpers for coaching and refereeing the netball games. Also, a big thank you to Mr Edwards and all the soccer and netball students from NAC for coming and playing in a great spirit of friendly competition.
One of our Year 7 Technology rotations is to learn about a type of engineering - designing and building large structures.
During a classroom card tower activity, students learned to work together, try new techniques, learn from failures and successes and then research ideas.
Students were challenged to try a different technique to what they originally thought. It was harder than expected and there was a lot of persistence from all. Congratulations to Ashton and Levi for reaching the highest height.
We had a fun time having delicious hot chips and designing formal wear out of garbage bags during a special chips and chat lunch with help from our school counselors. Thank you Mrs Donald, Mrs Stratton and Mrs Rebel for organising.
Last term, Years 10-12 attended the Periods, Pain and Endometriosis (PPEP Talk®) incursion. This engaging presentation aimed to impart the latest insights in pain science, medical management and self-care strategies.
The session played a vital role in equipping students with the knowledge and awareness to distinguish between normal and concerning pain, understand the connections between various symptoms, implement simple pain-reduction techniques and seek additional assistance if their pain becomes severe.
Data & feedback from our students included: It was very informative (male student)Very well done and straightforward to understand (female student)
Female students:- following PPEP Talk®, 88% of students with pain said they would visit a health professional if they needed more help to manage their period/pelvic pain
Male students:- 100% of students said PPEP Talk® gave them some ideas how to support people with period pain
A huge thanks to Polly & Liz from The Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia for sharing with us.

The CSSA Secondary Open Boys State Futsal Gala Day was a vibrant and competitive event that showcased the skills and determination of all the schools. The day was marked by intense matches and enthusiastic participation, fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among the teams.
The teams demonstrated impressive agility and teamwork, impressing the spectators and highlighting the growing passion for futsal at the state level. We also got smashed by Shire (Mr Asher's old school), however, we overcame this loss and got the job done against another school.
Overall, the event served as a platform for the celebration of talent and the promotion of healthy competition within the futsal community.

At the 2023 Edstart Secondary CIS Athletics Championships on September 19, our athletes displayed remarkable dedication and resilience despite scorching conditions. While they didn't reach the podium, their unwavering commitment in every event was evident.
This event offered valuable lessons on pursuing personal bests and sportsmanship. NCS applauds our athletes, Kent, Ollie, Noah, Emily and Hamish. Well done!
"CIS was a good day. It was really hot, like 34 degrees. There were heaps of people at both tracks. The main and warm up way more than any other year. It was good to see old friends and watch everyone compete." - Emily
