Principal`s Message

It has been a wonderfully busy and productive fortnight across the school. Students have settled into their classroom routines with confidence and enthusiasm, and it has been pleasing to see learning programs in full swing. It is hard to believe we are already approaching the halfway point of the term. The strong start our students have made reflects the positive partnerships between home and school, and the consistent expectations that support a calm and purposeful learning environment.

Attendance – Every Day Counts

Regular attendance at school is essential for student learning, wellbeing and connection. The Department of Education’s Every Day Counts message reminds us that even missing one day a fortnight can add up to four weeks of lost learning time across the year. We encourage all families to prioritise school attendance wherever possible and to schedule appointments outside school hours when feasible.

Arriving at school on time is equally important. The first part of the day sets the tone for learning, it is when teachers outline the day’s goals, establish routines and ensure students are organised and ready to learn. Developing strong morning routines and punctual habits supports independence, reduces anxiety and ensures students have the best possible start to each day.

A reminder to families to please record all absences via Compass and provide explanations in a timely manner. We also encourage you to check Compass regularly for school updates, news items and our calendar of upcoming events so you don’t miss important information.

School Council

We warmly welcome ournew School Council parent members Trudy and Dean, and thank them for their contribution to our school.

SunSmart

As we continue through the warmer months, we remain committed to our SunSmart practices. It has been pleasing to see many students wearing their hats responsibly during outdoor learning and play. However, there are still a number of students each day without hats. Please ensure your child brings a named broad-brimmed or bucket hat to school every day. Students without hats are required to play in shaded areas, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing this important health message.

NAPLAN – Years 3 and 5

Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in NAPLAN in the coming weeks. NAPLAN assesses skills in literacy and numeracy, including reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The assessment provides valuable information about student progress and helps inform teaching and learning programs.

While NAPLAN is one snapshot of student achievement, we encourage students to approach the assessments with a calm and positive mindset, simply doing their best. Our teachers have been preparing students by building familiarity with the test format and reinforcing the strong learning habits already established in class. Specific dates and further information will be communicated to relevant families via Compass.

Library News – Accessit

It has been fantastic to see so many students enthusiastically borrowing books through our Accessit Library system. Our library continues to be a vibrant hub of learning, curiosity and imagination. Students are able to borrow up to five books at any one time, and we are encouraging everyone to select a mix of both English and French language texts to support our bilingual program and strengthen literacy across both languages.

For parents and carers who would like to explore our collection, the library catalogue can be accessed via your Compass portal. Once logged in, click on the star icon and a hyperlink to our library catalogue will appear. Browsing the catalogue at home can be a wonderful way to support your child in making thoughtful book selections and fostering a love of reading.
