“ Act Justly, Love Tenderly and Walk Humbly with our God.”

Reminder-Duty of Care

We have a lovely caring group of parents at SXG and we appreciate each of you very much.

However, please remember that the students are in our care until delivered to the designated person picking them up. It is our job to phone parents if they are a bit late or if a child seems unclear about their pick up arrangements.

We understand parents mean well, but the children and any communication with parents is our responsibility until they are collected.

Our classrooms are humming with learning and on the whole the students are engaged and enjoying being back with their mates. We have welcomed a beautiful group of Kinder students who are settling in well and spending some time with their Year 6 Buddies. As are our new students in other grades.

Keep in mind, especially new parents, that we promote positive partnerships between families and school. We do this by staying open minded and using efficient communication methods.

Some points to remember for this year;

COMMUNICATION

  • Our main method of communication is through Compass. All school events are advertised on this platform. All notes and emails will come through Compass as well.
  • A wonderful way to see what is happening at school is to read the fortnightly School Newsletter! This is shared on Compass and on Facebook.
  • School events and photos are shared on Facebook.
  • Class Newsletters go home fortnightly.
  • Please contact us with any concerns, big or small. We are on the same team!

PLAYGROUND INTERACTIONS

  • Just about every single issue we have on the playground is age appropriate! Unproductive, but age appropriate. This is how children learn and develop. Strangely, they all learn and mature at different rates!

  • Some children require far more support than others to make better choices. We support and make adjustments for students in class, at sport and on the playground. Whilst not everyone receives the same support, our process for dealing with issues is transparent. Rest assured the “other” child in a disagreement with your child is also held responsible and also offered the same opportunities to repair the relationship and make amends.

DEVICES

  • A worrying number of students are still talking about playing on ROBLOX and similar apps. Our main concern is the amount of time some students are spending on devices. The fact that kids can chat to each other sometimes causes big problems for us at school. The impacts are NOT conducive to learning and wellbeing.
  • Students using messenger to write to each other also causes problems for us at school.
  • Kids do not understand the impact of writing something negative and sending it-they do not think of the consequences.

LANGUAGE

We have noticed that there has been an increase in the following types of communication;

  • Swearing
  • Backchatting, disrespectful interactions
  • Saying no to a reasonable request from a staff member

The majority of our students are fabulous communicators but there has been an increase in disrespectful communication, which we will not tolerate.

It takes a village as they say and we appreciate working with you to bring about the best possible outcome for every student in our care. We feel lucky to have the students we do have here at SXG.

Kind regards,

Jen
