Performing Arts & Music

Juniors
The junior students have been enjoying learning all about African music and rhythm. They have been introduced to the djembe drums and have been learning about the different notes they can play.
They have been learning the bass, open and slap notes. All students have been loving being djembe drummers, immersing themselves in African music. We are very much looking forward to our African Drumming incursion coming to Monty in Week 6!
The junior students have also been enjoying dancing with Tom, as a Performing Arts dance warm up. Dance with Tom presents a joyful celebration of Yugambeh language and stories through movement on ABC Kids.
Seniors
This fortnight we have been taking the students back in time looking at Mixed tapes and how people created tapes and shared music through physical mixed tapes.
We looked at how tapes worked and outlined how people used to record songs off the radio by carefully using the REC/PLAY and PAUSE technique. Students were amazed that you had to listen for so long, and that the internet / Spotify didn't exist and that you had to buy albums from an actual store! Oh what a simpler time!
With this in mind we created our mixed tape wall, with each student sharing a song which made them feel certain ways.
