Walking in Faith: Inspired by Blessed Chiara Badano

This term our wellbeing program – the Badano Program, has invited students to reflect on faith through the life and witness of Blessed Chiara Badano, whose courage and hope continue to inspire young people across the world. Chiara was an ordinary teenager who lived her life with extraordinary trust in God. Even in the face of suffering, she chose joy, gratitude, and deep faith, reminding us that holiness is not distant or unattainable, but lived in everyday choices.

As part of this reflection, students participated in the Rainbow of Possibilities activity. Each student wrote a personal value or commitment on a cloud and placed it beneath a rainbow display. The rainbow symbolises hope, the promise that light follows darkness, while the clouds represent our individual journeys, challenges, and growth. Together, the display illustrates that faith is not lived alone; it is a shared experience strengthened within community.

To build on this reflection, our Year 10 students have been focusing on the power of habits as they begin their journey at the DSC Campus. Through guided discussions and activities, students explored how small, intentional actions repeated over time shape character, influence decision-making, and support success in both learning and wellbeing. By understanding what habits are and why they matter, students recognised that daily choices, such as punctuality, organisation, kindness, effort and responsibility, are reflections of the fundamental values we hold. In this way, faith becomes visible through consistent actions: the habits we form ultimately shape the people we become and the community we create together.

Chiara Badano believed that every moment, even difficult ones, could be offered to God with love. In a similar spirit, our students identified values such as kindness, courage, patience, forgiveness, and compassion. These are not simply words. They are choices that shape who we become. By sharing their commitments, students demonstrated that faith is active and lived through relationships, actions, and attitudes toward others.

Our College theme of Faith calls us to trust, to hope, and to act with purpose. The Rainbow of Possibilities reflects this beautifully: faith allows us to see beyond the present moment and recognise that God is at work in our lives. Like Chiara, we are reminded that young people are capable of deep faith and meaningful witness.

May we continue to nurture a community where faith is visible not only in prayer, but in daily interactions, in encouragement, empathy, and service to one another.
