Harmony Week

Harmony Week was celebrated from 16 to 21 March, with Harmony Day taking place on 21 March. This important occasion provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate diversity, inclusion, and a strong sense of belonging. The theme for this year, “Everyone Belongs,” highlights the value of embracing and respecting differences within our community.
To mark the week, staff and students participated in a variety of activities, including classroom lessons, videos, and art and craft designs. A key whole-school project was the creation of the Heatherwood Tree of Belonging. Students from the Student Representative Council, guided by Deb Weimann, designed and constructed the trunk and branches of a large tree, which was displayed in the middle school corridor. The tree was created using orange paper, the official colour of Harmony Week.
Students from every class contributed by adding their handprints as leaves, resulting in a vibrant and meaningful display. It was wonderful to see the creativity and individuality reflected in each contribution, symbolising unity through diversity. This activity reinforced the message that at Heatherwood School, everyone belongs. Through ongoing discussions and shared experiences, students were encouraged to embrace differences, celebrate diversity, and demonstrate inclusion in their everyday actions and choices.
