This Week At OOPS

In classrooms, the year has begun with a strong focus on setting clear expectations, establishing positive norms, and building supportive learning environments. Students are already diving into core learning areas, including phonics, reading, writing, mathematics, inquiry, and wellbeing. Teachers and staff are prioritising strong foundations, ensuring every student understands classroom routines, learning goals and what success looks like. It has been a positive start to the year, with classrooms buzzing as students settle in, build relationships and begin their learning journey for 2026.

Our Specialist program is also well and truly up and running, with students already immersed in engaging learning across Mandarin, P.E, Music, S.T.E.M and Art. From drumming and movement in Music, to skill-building and teamwork in P.E., hands-on exploration in STEM, creative expression in Art, and language development in Mandarin, students are actively building new skills while strengthening confidence and collaboration. It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm and energy across these programs as students reconnect with routines and embrace new learning opportunities.

From school classrooms to tennis courts, our therapy dog Ginger was lucky enough to spend a day at the Australian Open during the holidays. She happily greeted staff, players, and spectators, showcasing the powerful role therapy animals play in promoting wellbeing and brightening people’s days.

The Preps have enjoyed counting the number of days we have been at school and creating their own number "posters". We have focussed on counting strategies and matching numbers to collections. We have also been learning about basic 2D shapes and playing lots of new maths games.
