Around the Classrooms

5/6C

A warm welcome to all our 5/6C families!

It has been a wonderful start to the year with students settling in extremely well and embracing the exciting learning taking place in our classroom. There is a strong sense of enthusiasm and positivity as students engage in new challenges and opportunities across all learning areas.

I am very pleased with how smoothly students have adapted to the classroom routines and expectations. They are becoming increasingly independent, organised and responsible in managing their learning and daily tasks.

It has also been lovely to see friendships forming and existing friendships strengthening. Students are demonstrating respect, kindness and cooperation as they work and learn together, creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.

I look forward to a rewarding year ahead, filled with growth, achievement and many wonderful learning experiences for 5/6C.

In Religious Education, the students have been learning about the three pillars of Lent: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. They have explored how these pillars guide us to grow closer to God and to think more deeply about how we can serve others during this important season of the Church year.

As part of our learning, each student thoughtfully wrote their own Lenten Promise, identifying a meaningful commitment they will focus on throughout Lent. Our Lenten Promises were then burnt and are now displayed on our class prayer table.

In Literacy, the  Year Five and Year Six students are engaged in rich novel studies that are developing their comprehension skills, vocabulary and ability to respond thoughtfully.

Year Six students are reading  “Can You See Me?

Year Six students are reading “Can You See Me?, developing empathy and understanding as they gain insight into Tally’s experiences of starting secondary school while facing the challenges and strengths of living with autism, friendships and finding her voice.

In Mathematics, the students have been extending their knowledge and understanding of place value and the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Students have been working with larger numbers, applying their understanding of place value to read, write, order and partition numbers confidently. They have explored how the value of a digit changes depending on its position and have practised explaining their mathematical thinking using correct terminology.

They are developing accuracy and efficiency when solving multi step problems. It has been wonderful to see students showing persistence and confidence as they work through challenging problems.

In Inquiry, the students have been exploring the qualities of effective leaders within our school community and across the wider world. Through discussion and reflection, students have identified key leadership traits such as integrity, courage, empathy, responsibility and the ability to inspire others. The Students are beginning to understand that leadership is not only about the title but what the impact you have with those around you and the  everyday choices we make.

As part of this unit, we are also focusing on what is needed to live well in order to lead well. Students are learning about the importance of healthy habits, including adequate sleep, balanced nutrition and regular recreation. They are exploring how these factors support wellbeing, decision making and resilience.

Wishing all families an enjoyable rest of the term as we enter the Autumn Season.

Kind regards,
