ACU Uni Step Up – On Wednesday 12th February, representatives from Australian Catholic University presented to a group of our Year 11 students during their PAM session. This was about the Uni Step Up Program which allows students to study a University subject online while still being at school. Students can sign up using the link below if they are interested.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 include 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date. Australian universities rank in the top 350 of over 1,700 universities, which is quite an achievement. Below are the top 10 universities in Australia, with the leading two universities in Victoria.

Tuckwell Scholarship for 2026
The Tuckwell Scholarship Program at the ANU is the most transformational undergraduate scholarship program in Australia. A Tuckwell is not just about a students’ intellect. It is also about their desire and determination to use their natural abilities to realise their full potential so that they can make a difference in the world. Up to 25 talented and motivated students from across the country are awarded a Tuckwell, giving them with the opportunity to realise their potential by providing them with financial support, personal enrichment, and development opportunities. All up one could say, this is no ordinary scholarship!
All eligible applicants are considered against four criteria:
- Academic potential and achievements;
- Other significant achievements of any type;
- Demonstration of the Tuckwell Attributes; and
- Connection and commitment to Australia.
Tuckwell Scholar students receive:
- $26,000 per annum (2024 rate) (increasing annually) for the length of your undergraduate degree program (studying full-time), to cover on-campus residential costs, books and general living expenses.
- a one-off payment of $1,500 relocation grant for first year Scholars.
- guaranteed access to ANU-approved student accommodation.
- travel allowances to assist with your move to Canberra and to support two annual return journeys (e.g. airfares) between your home and the University for each year of your degree.
- an allowance to help cover the transport costs for your parents to attend Commencement Weekend at the start of the program, and
- an ANU Sports Centre membership.
Applications will open in early March 2025, and close on 14 April 2025. Until applications open, interested students are encouraged to read the Tuckwell 2026 Application Guide, to familiarise themselves with the application process, and discuss their interest, suitability and eligibility for the Scholarship with a teacher or the Careers Practitioner.

University Clinical Aptitude Test
The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is an admissions test used by the UCAT ANZ Consortium of universities in Australia and New Zealand for their medical, dental, and clinical science degree programs. Universities requiring the UCAT are listed at this link - Universities requiring the UCAT but also listed below. Students intending to apply for courses requiring the UCAT at any of these universities are reminded that they will need to book a test.
NOTE: The UCAT ANZ test is changing in 2025. The Abstract Reasoning subtest will be withdrawn from the test. The new test format will comprise 3 cognitive subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning, and the Situational Judgement Test.
The new practice tests relevant to the abovementioned change, will be launched in early March 2025.
Students who are preparing for entry into any of these courses are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the format of the test at UCAT Test Format and the practice tests and preparation material provided at UCAT Preparation when available.
Bookings will open on 4 March 2025 and close 16 May 2025. The testing dates will be from 1 July 2025 to 5 August 2025.

Maria Island Marine Biology ExperienceThe University of Tasmania is once again proud to present Year 11 and 12 students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a week as a marine biologist.
A Practical Introduction to Temperate Marine Biology is an introduction to the Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science degree at UTAS. Upon completing this short course, students will receive a credit unit towards their future University of Tasmania degree.
This is a 5-day field trip based on the picturesque Maria Island, on the Tasmanian East Coast. The unit is open to 24 students and is designed to engage, challenge, excite and inspire students through a hands-on marine science program. It will encourage them to explore issues threatening biodiversity as well as the productivity of the marine system. Climate change, invasive species, pollution, debris and their associated social and economic impacts will all be covered.

The course will run from Monday 21 April – Sunday 27 April 2025.

Career as a Biomedical Engineer
The Good Universities Guide* states that Biomedical Engineers apply engineering and scientific methods to find solutions to problems in medicine and the life sciences. Biomedical Engineers fulfil a number of tasks including –
- Designing new medical monitoring, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment
- Setting up and maintaining medical equipment
- Plan data processing services and the development of associated computing programs
- Analyse new medical procedures to forecast likely outcomes
- Participate in medical or scientific procedures where biomedical skills are needed
- Design and deliver technology to assist people with disability
- Analyse and design prosthetic and orthotic devices
- * Biomedical Engineer
To become a Biomedical Engineer, students you usually have to complete an engineering degree at university with a major in biomedical engineering. Several universities in Victoria offer Biomedical Engineering as a specialisation. Students are encouraged to browse VTAC to learn about these courses and their entry requirements.

- Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) was founded in 1991 and is a school of Torrens University Australia .
- Ranked #2 in Australia in the QS World University rankings by subject 2024 (Hospitality and Leisure Management).
