Library News: A Busy and Exciting Start to the Year!

The school year has started with a bang in the library, with a flurry of activity and engagement from our students! Our dedicated Independent Reading Program (IRP) has been in full swing, with over 2,000 students coming through our doors to borrow books and foster a love of reading. It has been fantastic to see so many students embracing the joy of literature and exploring new stories.

Our Year 7 students had a particularly exciting introduction to the library, with over 20 classes participating in a special Orientation session. These sessions helped them learn about different genres and how to navigate our library collections. To make their experience even more engaging, students took part in a fun and interactive scavenger hunt, where they explored the library while searching for clues and discovering new books along the way.

We also marked some special celebrations in the library, bringing culture and creativity into our space. For Lunar New Year, we created a vibrant display at the library entrance, setting the scene for the festivities. Students also had the opportunity to craft their own Chinese lanterns, adding a personal touch to the celebrations. In February, love was in the air as students made Valentine's Day cards for someone special—a wonderful way to spread kindness and creativity.

In addition to reading and special events, we’ve introduced some exciting extracurricular activities for students to enjoy. Mr. Jimmy Luong now runs the Chess Club after school every Thursday, providing a fantastic opportunity for students to sharpen their skills, develop strategies, and challenge each other in friendly matches.

Our MakerSpace sessions have also been a hit! Held once a week, these sessions offer hands-on STEAM and craft activities that allow students to get creative. So far, we’ve enjoyed activities such as animal rock painting and designing personalized tote bags to take home. We can’t wait to see what our next projects will bring!

The library continues to be a hub of learning, creativity, and fun, and we look forward to more exciting activities and student engagement in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates and happy reading!
