Health/Wellbeing

A term of reflection, resilience, and reconnection

Hi everyone,

This term was a mixed bag with year 7’s transitioning into high-school, athletics day, NAPLAN, culture celebrations and we say good-bye to our Principal Mr. Perry

As we come to the end of the first Term of 2025, we wanted to recap these past 10 weeks and look forward to how we can take care of ourselves over the school holiday break and returning in Term 2.

Wellbeing Check-In

As we wrap up this term, it is good to take a moment to check in on your mental and physical health. Whether you’re a student, parent, or teacher, it can help reduce stress, boosts mood, and helps you reflect on the term, what you need for your holiday break and prep for Term 2.

For Students:

  • Pause and Reflect: Ask, “How am I feeling today? What do I need—rest, a break, or a chat?”
  • Take Care of Yourself: Get enough sleep, eat well, and take short breaks to recharge.
  • Stay Connected: Talk to friends or family about how you’re doing it, it helps you feel supported.
  • Ask for Help: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, talk to a friend and a trusted adult and/or reach out to places like Kids helpline.

For Parents, Carers, and Teachers:

  • Check In on Others: Ask students or colleagues, “How are you feeling?” and listen supportively.
  • Set Boundaries: Make time for yourself to rest and recharge, setting an example for students.
  • Offer Support: Encourage students to seek help if needed and share resources like helplines.
It’s okay to slow down, recharge, and prioritise you- Your future self will thank you.

Reflecting on Term 1 2025

City of Casey Youth Services 360 Bus

We were very fortunate to have the City of Casey 360 Bus come to visit some of our students to discuss local events and support services available to them. Bonus, the bus was decked out with gaming consoles and more!

Ramadan at School

During Term 1, students observing Ramadan were supported in practicing their faith while remaining engaged at school. With quiet spaces made available, respectful adjustments in place, and a strong culture of understanding promoted across the school, many students shared they felt seen and respected during this time. Thank-you to all the students, families and staff of Kambrya for your participation and support during this time.

Close the Gap: Bunjil Place event

A local event was held for Secondary School Koorie Students to participate in. Along with Kambrya School Captains and Staff, our students engaged in thought provoking discussions around their culture and what this means to them.

“The Closing the Gaps excursion was an amazing bonding opportunity that allowed us to develop connections with other First Nations students in the local area. This was such a rare opportunity that was done in such a fun way, where we were challenged to get out of our comfort zone by engaging in both meaningful and heartfelt discussions, as well as physical activities that got us running around like headless chooks! I'm sure we will all remember the inspiring stories we heard from the wonderful staff at the Richmond Football club and learn to embrace ourselves and our identities, no matter what others say.” Jesse Barrett Year 12

Close the Gap at School

This year’s Close the Gap Day was marked by meaningful lunchtime activities run by our Secondary School Nurse, with support from student committee groups.

Students engaged with a range of activities focused on health, identity, and education outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Year 7 transition to high-school

With one of the largest cohorts of year 7 commencing this year, we acknowledge that this is a big change not only for the students but parents and carers as well. The City of Casey Youth Services will be running a group for parents and/or carers of Year 7 to support the transition. It will be focused on building parents' confidence, maintaining your own wellbeing and strategies. See flyer below for more info.

Coming up in term 2

Next Term we will be acknowledging

  • Anzac Day
  • National Sorry Day
  • Reconciliation Week
  • Men’s Health Week
  • World refugee day
  • Mindful in May
  • International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT)
  • Pride Month

During this we hope to run lunchtime activities and/or share resources with you all on these topics and more.

Exam week for Year 8 to 12 will also commence. This time of year can be quite stressful for some, therefore we want you to know that support is available.
