NAPLAN 2025
NAPLAN will take place from the 12th of March through to the 24th of March for students in Year 7 and Year 9.
NAPLAN is a National Literacy and Numeracy Assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake. As students progress through their school years, it’s important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how your child is progressing against national standards and over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
The Woodmans Hill Secondary College NAPLAN 2025 timetable is located on Compass and on the English and Maths pages further in this Newsletter.
Teaching & Learning
Year 11 - English
Students in Year 11 English are in the depths of studying Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. Students have spent time exploring literary features, themes, and characters within the text and are now analysing the ideologies presented by the author alongside exploring their own personal reflections of the text. They are working towards writing an essay which demonstrates their understanding of Nineteen Eighty-Four and the ways the author intended to influence his audience.
Staff Professional Learning
Next term we will have a Professional Learning Day for staff that is focused on the instructional principle of chunking new information. This involves presenting new material in small steps with student practice after each step. Only after presenting small amounts of new material at any time and then assisting students as they practice this material, should instruction continue.
As we have with our previous Professional Learning days, we will be inviting our student leaders to attend this day to learn with us, provide feedback and their perspectives and to assist with the monitoring of this instructional focus in term 2.
We are also arranging guided study and revision sessions to be held onsite during this day for our senior students to ensure they are supported with their upcoming assessments and exams. More information will be shared later this term.
