Exploring Creativity Across Year Levels in the Art Department

At Woodmans Hill Secondary College, the Art Key Learning Area continues to inspire and engage students of all year levels, helping them develop both their technical skills and creative expression. Here's a snapshot of what’s happening across the year groups in the Art Department:

Year 7: Observational Drawing with Sea Shells

Year 7 students are diving into the world of observational drawing, focusing on tone and texture as they draw sea shells. This learning task allows them to hone their attention to detail, exploring how light and shadow play on the surfaces of natural objects.

Year 8: Exploring Still Life and Drawing Techniques

Year 8 students have started exploring still life compositions, working on enhancing their drawing techniques. By studying various objects, students learn to create balanced compositions, handle perspective, and refine their rendering skills. This foundational exercise will set the stage for future explorations in more complex subjects and materials, encouraging creativity and precision in their work.

VCE Art Making and Exhibiting: Experimentation and Artist Research

Our VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students are busy filling their folios with creative experiments and in-depth artist research. They are exploring different materials and techniques, while researching artists to inspire and inform their own unique approaches. This stage of their learning is all about pushing boundaries and developing a personal artistic voice, preparing them for their final artworks.

Year 12 VCD: Embarking on SAC1

The VCE Visual Communication Design (VCD) students are embarking on their first School-Assessed Coursework (SAC). Students will be putting their content knowledge into practice on this assessment involves, comparative case studies and practical design exercises.

Year 9 and 10 Electives

In the Year 9 and 10 Electives, students have the opportunity to focus on their interests and build skills that will prepare them for the more advanced years of study. These electives provide a platform for students to experiment with different mediums and explore their creativity through Art, VCD Digital and Textiles.

Introducing the 'Art Snippet'

Each week, the Art Key Learning Area will be selecting an 'Art Snippet'—a student art piece that stands out for its creativity, skill, or unique approach. This initiative will celebrate the amazing work being created in the department and provide an opportunity for students to showcase their talent and hard work. Keep an eye out for these featured works in upcoming newsletters!
