Principal's Report

Premier's Visit

As you know from my Principal's Round Up, we were excited and honoured to receive a visit from our local Member for Eureka Michaela Settle and the Premier of Victoria, Hon. Jacinta Allen.

The visit came at the very end of the planning stage of our $8 million Capital Works Project which is due to begin in Term 2. Many of you who have been a community member at our school for some time, know already of the works that we have planned but for those of you who are new, I have included some plans/3D images for you.

The work will be centred around the creation of a new standalone Year 7 centre which will support new students as they transition into the Woodmans Hill Secondary College community. We feel strongly that the transition from grade 6 into Year 7 is a critical time for young people. It supports connection to school and the development of confidence as secondary learners and the need to support students during this period cannot be underestimated. This space will house 6 classroom spaces, which will allow all Year 7 classes to have a dedicated home room. There will also be break out spaces, and staff offices/workspaces.

The second piece of work will be an extension to the Senior Centre which will enable a closed off study space, and two small group tutorial spaces. This will provide our senior students with the conditions needed for them to thrive in their senior years of education.

Riding to School & Improvements to Bike Storage

Many of our students at Woodmans Hill Secondary College, ride or scoot to school each day and one of the things that I have noticed is how full our bike rack is each day.

As Principal, I would like to improve the safety of student bikes and scooters as well as improve and make the front of the school a more welcoming and user-friendly space, particularly at the end of the school day when all students are leaving.

I have a goal, in 2025, to work with our community to build a new, lockable bike/scooter storage shelter at Woodmans Secondary College and I am currently in the early stages of planning for this. To begin, I would like to hear from parents and students about the bike usage of our community members, now and in the future, if we can create safer and more secure storage for all students. I need to get a sense of the size and scope that we need to cater for all students at Woodmans Hill Secondary College.

I have created some surveys one for parents and one for students to gather information about transportation to school and the use and potential use of bikes and scooters. I would love for as many parents and students as possible to complete this.
