Assistant Principal's Report

Grade 6 Camp

On Monday morning bright and early, 82 of our Grade 6 students along with nine staff members headed off on the bus to Canberra. The students have had some good weather so far and have enjoyed the first few days seeing the sights of Canberra and learning about our nation’s capital and government.

Some of the places the students will visit over the 5-day camp will include Government House, Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and the High Court of Australia. They will also spend an evening at Questacon and a night having fun playing laser tag with their classmates before making the bus trip home and arriving back at school some time on Friday afternoon, depending upon the traffic.

Please do not contact the Office as they will not have any information about the arrival time – notifications will be sent via Compass.

School Council

Nominations have now closed.  We have received three nominations for the four positions available and therefore we do not have to have an election.

Congratulations to the successful nominees:

  • Beena Iyer Logan
  • Rebecca Gray
  • Nadia Mecoli

There is one parent category position and two community positions available.

If you are interested in a position on School Council, please contact Janet Paterson or Dale Adams - email preston.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

NAPLAN

Next week the Grade 3 and Grade 5 students will begin NAPLAN. They will complete writing, reading, conventions of language, and numeracy tasks over the next two weeks. In 2024 all of the sessions will be conducted online except the Grade 3 writing which will be done on paper. If a student misses a session due to illness or injury there will be an opportunity for them to complete a ‘catch up’ session within the two-week NAPLAN time period.

The results of the tests provide diagnostic information for parents and teachers about a child’s performance in Literacy and Numeracy. This information can be used to support teaching and learning programs and improve student achievement.

NAPLAN reports will be sent out later in the year. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in reading, writing, language conventions and numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards.

Dr Cranky’s bike mechanics are coming to Preston to provide FREE bike servicing

Riding, walking or scooting to school is a great way to start your day. We want to make sure every student can do just that, so Dr Cranky’s bike mechanics are coming to our school this month to fix kids’ bikes for FREE! If you don’t have a bike they can provide recycled bikes for those that need them at no cost.

 Dates for your diary:

  • Tuesday 12 March 8.30-9.30am & 3-4.30pm – get a bike check or order a recycled bike
  • Monday 18 March 8.30-9.30am & 3-4.30pm – get a bike check or pick up a recycled bike

To help these events run smoothly we need parents to volunteer at each event. If you’re available to help, please email barts@drcrankys.com.au

We’re looking forward to celebrating riding, walking and scooting to school on Ride2School Day on Friday 22 March!

The Resilience Project Parent and Carer Presentation

On Tuesday 5th March The Resilience Project hosted the Parent and Carer Presentation Online for members of the Preston Primary School Community.

Many parents and carers logged in and listened to the presentation, but for those of you who missed it or if you would like to view it again, you can watch the entire presentation using the link to the recording below.

Here is the link to the recording for distribution to those who couldn't make the live session, or would like to watch the presentation again.

Please note: this link will expire on the 20th of March.
