Just before we began the season of Lent we were treated to some very well made pancakes cooked by Mr Pietryk, Mr Danny and Mr Cliff. They cooked over 700 pancakes over the course of 3 hours and for a brief moment classrooms around the school had a delicious smell!
We celebrate Shrove Tuesday as a day of preparation for the beginning of Lent where traditionally, foods that would not make the 40 days of fasting like eggs, milk and flour, would be used up and shared amongst the community.
We give thanks to Mr Pietryk, Mr Danny, Mr Cliff and all of our teachers and staff at OLPS for preparing this special celebration as we begin the Season of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.
It was a truely amazing sight and sound as we gathered together for our first whole school mass together. We send out a special THANKS to:
- Our Year 6 students who read and served in our Mass
- Our Choir for bringing our Mass to life with beautiful singing
- Our teachers who distributed the ashes and communion
- Our families who took some time from their day to be with us at Mass
Important Dates for each Sacrament will be added closer to the times.
Sacrament of Reconciliation - Year 3
Sacrament of First Communion - Year 4
Sacrament of Confirmation - Year 6
This week's Gospel puts Jesus in a tempting situation; become the Son of God for everyone to know and see or continue to slowly and humbly transform the lives of God people knowing that his time is coming to an end. Through his refusal of temptation, we are asked to think about the same during this season - Do we fall for temptation for the quick reward or are we willing to be like Jesus and refuse it in hopes of a greater more personal reward in the future?
Have a great week ahead and God Bless,
Mr Angelo Iacopino
