Around The Primary

Dear Families

The Visual Arts is a valued and integral learning area at John XXIII College. The students in the early years take part in integrated lessons with their class teachers and Years 3 to Year 6 students participate in a weekly specialist session run by Mrs Blaauw (Visual Arts Teacher). These lessons are a doorway for students to discover and cultivate the exploration of imagination, creativity, and curiosity through making and responding to art. Students learn about the visual elements of art through practical hands-on activities that develop skills, techniques, and processes. They engage with, and explore, the qualities and properties of different materials such as clay and paint as well as approaches such as painting, collage, sculpture, drawing, and print making.

The College Visual Arts Exhibition will be open tomorrow, Saturday 21 October from 11:00am to 2:00pm in the Thomas More Exhibition Centre. This Exhibition features artwork from the Secondary and Primary school students.  Tomorrow is your final chance to view the amazing artwork.

Every student from Year 3-6 has a piece of artwork exhibited and there is also a small selection from the Early Years. It is a great opportunity for families to view artwork across all years and for students to showcase their artwork. We hope many families will come along on Saturday and see the students’ design and creativity skills.

Special thanks to Ms Blaauw for all her hard work to ensure that the Primary school has a range of art forms in this year’s exhibition.

We look forward to having a big family cheer squad at the Junior Primary Athletics Carnival next Thursday 26 October. Don’t forget to wear your parent badge on the day!

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated next Friday 27 October. It is a special day to acknowledge the professionalism, dedication, and expertise of all those responsible for educating our students.  I encourage you to take the time to send an email or personally thank our wonderful educators.

Kind regards

Scitech Challenge Day

On Wednesday the Year 5 GATE students attended the Scitech Challenge Day. This was held with other Catholic schools to promote STEM. This year’s theme was Animal Migration. The students worked in teams of four to complete a series of challenges throughout the day including a Maths Quest, City Planning Challenge, Astronomy Quiz, and an Engineering Challenge.  The students teamwork and behaviour was outstanding, with one of our team’s ‘The METS’ placing second in the overall competition.

Junior Primary Athletics Carnival

The students have been busy practicing the different events and excitement is building for the Junior Primary Athletics Carnival on Thursday 26 October!   I look forward to seeing lots of parents, grandparents and friends cheering our students on.

Alternate Sports Program

Our Year 5 and 6 students had the first session of our alternate sports program.  Students are learning that sport can take many different forms and being active is an important part of both physical and mental health.
