Year 7 Zoo visit | Year 9 Disease Investigation Prac | Year 11 Chemistry
Year 7 students embarked on a journey to Melbourne zoo where they selected two animals of their choice and collected a range of key information relating to their current studies: What's their taxonomic classification? Preferred food and habitat? Current threats and conservation efforts?
Who is patient zero? Year 9 students were given test tubes of water to represent their bodies and health, some of which included an added substance detectable by chemical indicators to represent a disease carrier. The carriers soon spread the disease across the class and it was up to the students to conduct their own contact tracing to discover who was the source of the virus.
This week students undertook a vitamin C investigation in Year 11 Chemistry. Many students tested the effect of cooking, freezing or even aging fruit on vitamin C levels. As part of this project, students learnt valuable practical skills on how to extract vitamin C from real-world samples.
