Semester 2 Assessments

Throughout the year teachers use a variety of ways to monitor student growth; we use checklists, observation notes, student work samples and pre and post tests. As we head into the Semester 2 assessment cycle, significant time is allocated for class teachers to assess our students on the key curriculum areas.  A large part of the Semester Two reports are based on the data gathered during this period.

OLA's whole school production 'Mission H20'

Preparations for our whole school production 'Mission H20' are well underway. The students are participating in acting, singing and dance rehearsals with great positivity and their classroom teachers are seeing a different side of their students! The show will be performed on the evening of Thursday 30 November at Kingston Arts Centre. We are very excited to be able to perform in this venue and for you to come and be part of the audience.

The school production is a compulsory school event - the idea is that each child gets their chance to shine on stage and be a part of something big! Please mark it in your calendar. More information will follow about details such as costuming in the coming weeks. Great thanks to Claudelle Salter (mum of Jack) who has offered to help organise/source costumes. It would be wonderful if she had a helper or two - sewing is not a requirement!

Term 4 Inquiry's theme is CHANGE

Our students will be investigating the physical changes of materials and how properties change when materials stretch, bend, twist, heat or cool. Students predict how materials will vary and whether they can be returned to their original state.

To support the Inquiry Unit, our Grade 5/6 students attended an excursion today to TwistED Science Moorabbin.  To complement our classroom learning, students will attend the Chemistry Workshop where they will experiment with chemical reactions and have time to explore the exhibits.

Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge

This year we had 33 OLA students participate in the 2023 Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge. They read an amazing 685 books. Students were encouraged to read both challenge and choice books. Many of our students also published reviews on the Reading Website. We are so proud of the students who participated in this great initiative that encourages a love of reading.  Congratulations to the students below who will all receive a signed certificate from Daniel Andrews former Premier of Australia.
