Past Student Achievement: Change the Game Ambassador

Gabby Seymour (Class of 2014, Everard House) is not only kicking goals in the field as Vice -Captain of the Tigers Women’s team but also as an ambassador for the “Change the Game” initiative.

Gabby has become a prominent advocate for players as part of the Union in ongoing collective bargaining agreement negotiations and has been a major player in shifting the expectation of what is allowed to be worn on the field by female players. Recently, the shift from having to wear white shorts to wearing black brought about a positive change in the level of comfort felt by AFLW players.

Gabby has always been very motivated whether it was in her studies, her extra-curricular programs such as music and sport or in bringing about change.

We congratulate her and we are very proud of her achievements to date.

Eltham High School Space Camp

A joint venture has been organised for students from Eltham High School and Diamond Valley College to travel to Alabama and experience the wonders of Space Camp.

The group left on Saturday 9 September, and they arrived safely to begin this amazing experience.

A big thank you to all the staff from both schools for their initiative in getting this program up and running after it was put on hold for a couple of years due to the pandemic. However, they are now there.

We wish them all the very best as they explore NASA and the marvels of Space.

Eltham High School STEAM Centre Development

I am pleased to communicate that at the end of the tender process for the appointment of our architects, in Collaboration with the Victorian Schools Building Authority and the Regional Office the decision has been made to appoint Haskell Architects to develop the School Masterplan and the design for the STEAM Centre.

Haskell Architects were able to clearly demonstrate their understanding of the school, our education rationale and the requirements of the project for us to be able to deliver the type of learning that we feel will best meet the needs of our students. Furthermore, they demonstrated their ability for innovation and forward thinking into the future, not just the present.

This company of architects also has a great deal of experience working with schools on large scale projects such as ours.

We look forward to a strong, positive relationship with the company as we begin the next stage of development.

End of Term 3

The end of Term 3 has almost arrived and what a term it has been. There have been a number of challenges to contend with but the most difficult has been student and staff absences.  We still have a small  number of staff on medical leave and whilst we continue to do our very best to support students and their learning, this is impacted on by day to day teacher changes. We have worked hard in trying to minimise this as far as it has been possible, allocating a consistent casual relief teacher (CRT) to particular classes. So, whilst the class teacher is away, students are not necessarily subjected to a range of teachers.

I want to congratulate our students on the way they approach their classes, and I also thank our teachers in that even though they may be away ill, they continue to post lesson plans and work on Compass so there is continuation of learning taking place.

I also want to thank parents/carers for your understanding and patience.

I take this opportunity to wish all our students and staff a very restful and relaxing break.

Year 12 students will be involved in practice exams in the first week of the break and I am sure that they will then spend most of their time preparing for their final exams as once they return in term 4, they have less than two weeks left of school.

We will look forward to seeing all students and staff back at school on Monday 2 October.

As is customary, on Friday 15 September, the last day of term, school will finish at 2:30pm. I ask all parents and carers to organise safe travel home for our young people if the early finish isn’t going to align with their normal way of getting home.
