2024 Senior Pathways Expo

On Tuesday 18th of June, UHS hosted a Senior Pathways Expo for all Year 9 and Year 10 students. Students received their Senior Pathways Handbook upon registration and then visited domain based exhibits where they were able to ask teachers questions and learn more about all of the subjects offered at UHS. It was great to see so many parents and carers come along as well.

More information about the structure of Year 10, VCE and the subject selection process will be provided to families in Week 1 of Term 3 when we host a Senior Pathways Parents & Carers Information Night on Wednesday 17th July.  Keep an eye out on the Compass Newsfeed for more details closer to the date.

There is a lot of new information to digest! Over the holidays, we encourage Year 9 and Year 10 students to continue to read through their Senior Pathways Handbook and ask lots of questions.

Please feel free to reach out to your teachers and sub school - we are here to help you every step of the way! We look forward to working with you over the rest of the subject selection period.

Senior Pathways Expo Team

The Senior Pathways Expo was an informative and enriching experience that I found truly helpful in my decisions for my future VCE subjects and how it would impact my following career. Teachers manning each booth were eager to impart knowledge to us and offer insights into the type of coursework we would encounter in that particular subject. I personally managed to decide on subjects I was previously on the fence about, especially in the sciences department. Furthermore, the careers booth gave me the opportunity to consider my choices for University as well, having many brochures and advisors to consult and ask questions. Overall, the expo was a well needed step in my journey to tertiary education.

The pathways expo that was held on Tuesday, the 18th of June helped us learn more about the VCE and VET options we can pick in years 10 and 11. Held on campus, it had various subsections offering information and displays about the various subjects students could consider - from theatrical arts to humanities. We got to talk to teachers who are knowledgeable in their selected area and learn more about the respective subjects. The air was full of excitement and curiosity as students explored their interests and considered potential pathways. The expo offered helpful insights for those who had their minds set on a specific career path, and those who are still considering what they want to pursue. The Expo really helped us see how what we learn in school connects to real jobs and what we might want to do later in our senior years at UHS.

As the academic year progressed, Year 9 and 10 students at University High School eagerly anticipated the Senior Pathways Expo—a pivotal event marking the beginning of their journey towards shaping their educational and career paths. Held annually, the expo provided a comprehensive overview of the senior courses available, empowering students to make informed decisions that aligned with their interests and aspirations. Just weeks ago, students had engaged in insightful one-on-one Morrisby sessions with career specialists and counsellors . These sessions, guided by aptitude tests taken by all students, helped illuminate potential career paths and educational avenues suited to individual strengths and ambitions. Now armed with personalized insights, students embarked on the next phase of their academic journey: the Senior Pathways Expo.

"2024 is truly a year packed with excitement," shared one enthusiastic student, reflecting on upcoming events such as the school holidays, the Essence front cover competition, and the highly anticipated Olympics. Amidst these significant milestones, the Senior Pathways Expo served as a beacon of guidance and reassurance. While selecting careers and subjects could seem daunting, the expo fostered a supportive atmosphere where students, teachers, and counsellors came together in solidarity. It was a reminder that we were all navigating this journey together, drawing strength from our shared experiences and collective aspirations. As students prepared to shape their futures, the Senior Pathways Expo at University High School stood as a testament to the school's commitment to nurturing each student's potential. If you wish to dispel any doubts about your future don’t hesitate to reach out to a trusted teacher or guidance counsellor at our school. Other than that all I can say is bring it on 2024 ‘cause UHS students are ready.
