Exploring Spirituality and Service in Term 2

Mrs Laura Gilbert, Pathways Middle Leader

In Term 2, our Year 10 Religion and Ethics students explored spirituality across various religious traditions. Highlights included a visit from Imam Ibrahim Newman, who shared insights into Islamic practices, and participation in a traditional Indigenous Smoking Ceremony led by local elders, offering a profound experience of Aboriginal spirituality.

Students also engaged in a range of Christian prayer and meditative practices, deepening their connection with their own faith traditions. Additionally, Fr Saju visited and celebrated the Eucharist in the College Chapel, providing a significant moment for reflection and communal worship.

Year 7 students participated in yarning circles led by Year 11 Catholic Faith in Action students, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect through shared stories and experiences.

Meanwhile, Year 12 Catholic Faith in Action students visited St Thomas' Parish School, Mareeba Animal Refuge, and the Mareeba Aged Care Facility as part of their service projects. These visits allowed them to put their faith into action, providing support and companionship to various members of the community.

These activities reflect our commitment to a holistic religious education, celebrating diversity and nurturing empathy and understanding. We are proud of our students' enthusiasm and engagement and look forward to continuing this journey of exploration and learning.
